The value of \(\dfrac{4.359 \times 4.359 - 1.641 \times 1.641}{4.359 - 1.641}\) is :
Answer: B
The value is 6.0.
The numerator has the form \(a^{2} - b^{2}\) with a = 4.359 and b = 1.641, and the denominator is a - b:
\[ \begin{aligned} \frac{a^{2} - b^{2}}{a - b} &= a + b \\ &= 4.359 + 1.641 = 6.0 \end{aligned} \]
No long multiplication is needed: the identity \(a^{2} - b^{2} = (a + b)(a - b)\) cancels the denominator. 6.3, 5.0 and 7.3 come from arithmetic slips; the two decimals are chosen to sum to exactly 6.
