Alumina melts at about 2,050 degrees Celsius. Roughly what sintering temperature does the two-thirds rule suggest, in degrees Celsius?
Answer: B
The melting point is about 2,320 kelvin, two thirds of which is roughly 1,550 kelvin, or about 1,275 degrees Celsius. Real alumina is sintered somewhat hotter than this, so the rule is a guide rather than a specification.
