Correct answer: Point out the mistake privately and show him the correct method
A private correction preserves the colleague’s dignity while actually fixing the cause, which repeated silent corrections by you never would. Escalating first, or raising it publicly, is disproportionate to a mistake that has not yet been pointed out even once.
