The National Policy on Education was approved in 1986.
Parliament approved the National Policy on Education in May 1986, under Rajiv Gandhi's government. It was modified in 1992 with a Programme of Action and remained in force until the National Education Policy of 2020.
1984 and 1985 come before the policy (1985 saw the document 'Challenge of Education: A Policy Perspective'), and 1990 is the year of the Ramamurti Committee that reviewed it.
