Foucault's research interests were broadly in three areas of history. Which are they ?
(I) Study of psychiatry
(II) Medicine
(III) Penology
(IV) Education
Select the correct answer according to the codes given below :
Answer: C
The answer is (I), (II) and (III): psychiatry, medicine and penology.
Michel Foucault's major historical studies dealt with madness and the rise of psychiatry in Madness and Civilization (1961), clinical medicine in The Birth of the Clinic (1963), and the prison and punishment in Discipline and Punish (1975).
Education was not one of his three fields of historical research. Schools appear in Discipline and Punish only as one of the disciplinary institutions alongside barracks and factories, so the codes that include (IV) are wrong.
