Which bioremediation process incorporate essential nutrients (Viz.N, P, etc.) and electron acceptor to contaminated area (aquatic, soil) in order to promote the activity of native microbes for degradation of hydrocarbons ?
Answer: C
The process is biostimulation.
Biostimulation speeds up degradation by stimulating the microbes already present at a polluted site: nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus and electron acceptors such as oxygen are added, so the native hydrocarbon-degrading populations grow and work faster.
Bioaugmentation instead adds new microbial cultures to the site. Biosparging injects air under pressure below the water table, chiefly to supply oxygen and strip volatile compounds. 'Preferential biodegradation' is not the name of a remediation technique.
