Reclassification, overlay and the measurement of distance and connectivity are spatial analysis operations performed in a GIS. Projection, the conversion of coordinates from the curved Earth to a flat map, is a preparatory step applied to the base data and not one of these analytical operations, and that is why the key marks it as the item that is not a part of the analysis in a GIS. The three analytical options are all things a GIS does to its layers.
