Under the Special Marriage Act, 1954, what is the maximum fine that may be imposed for printing or publishing matter in contravention of provisions relating to in-camera proceedings ?
Answer: D
The maximum is a fine up to one thousand rupees.
Section 33 of the Special Marriage Act, 1954 provides for proceedings under the Act to be conducted in camera and makes it unlawful for any person to print or publish any matter in relation to such a proceeding, except a judgment of the High Court or the Supreme Court printed or published with the court's previous permission. Section 33(2) punishes a person who prints or publishes in contravention of this with fine which may extend to one thousand rupees.
The other amounts are not the figure in the section; the penalty is a fine only, with no term of imprisonment.
