Consider the following statements about instrument verification.
1. A white tile checks the scale of the reflectance readings.
2. A black trap checks the zero and the stray light.
3. Verification is required only when the instrument is new.
Answer: D
The first two are correct and are the two basic checks. The third is wrong, since verification is a routine daily or weekly activity. Drift accumulates without any obvious symptom. Routine checking is the only defence.
