A solution of \( 10^{-5} \ \mathrm{M} \) in a \( 1 \ \mathrm{cm} \) cell has \( \varepsilon = 10^{4} \). Its absorbance is
Answer: D
Multiplying the three terms of the law:
\[ A = \varepsilon b c = 10^{4} \times 1 \times 10^{-5} = 0.1 \]
giving 0.1. Because the units of absorptivity are chosen to cancel those of path length and concentration, the product is dimensionless as an absorbance must be - which is a quick check that the right units have been used.
