At roughly what absorbance is photometric error least?
Answer: B
The relative error curve has a broad minimum near an absorbance of about 0.4, where a given uncertainty in transmittance translates into the smallest relative uncertainty in concentration. Very low absorbance means a small difference between two large numbers, and very high absorbance means measuring a tiny transmitted signal. Working in the range from about 0.2 to 0.8 is standard practice, and diluting or changing the cell length is how a reading is brought into it.
