The 44th Chess Olympiad was organised in Chennai.
The 44th Chess Olympiad was held at Mamallapuram near Chennai, Tamil Nadu, from 28 July to 10 August 2022. It was the first Chess Olympiad held in India, and the first torch relay in the event's history began in Delhi.
Mumbai, Jodhpur and Bhopal did not host it.
India finished with bronze medals in both the open and women's sections at that Olympiad, and the event was organised at short notice after Russia, the original host, was replaced.
