How many centuries in Tests did Sunil Gavaskar bag when he retired?

Sunil Gavaskar retired with 34 Test centuries, then the world record, having passed Don Bradman's 29 in 1983.
He was also the first batsman to reach 10,000 Test runs. The record of 34 stood until Sachin Tendulkar passed it in 2005.
