Which part of the following sentence contains an error ?
Both Raghunath as well as Ravish (a) have given (b) their consent (c) to the new proposal (d)
Answer: B
The error is in part (a), 'Both Raghunath as well as Ravish'.
'Both' pairs with 'and', and 'as well as' is used on its own; combining them is redundant and incorrect. The sentence should read 'Both Raghunath and Ravish have given their consent to the new proposal'.
With 'Both ... and', the subject is plural, so 'have given' (b) is correct, and so is the plural pronoun in 'their consent' (c). The phrase 'to the new proposal' (d) uses the right preposition after 'consent'.
