Consider the following pairs of component and function.
Solenoid - engages pinion and switches main current
One way clutch - prevents engine driving the motor
Commutator - reverses current in armature coils
Glow plug - ignites the fuel directly
How many of the pairs given above are correctly matched?
Answer: D
A glow plug heats the combustion chamber so that compression can bring the charge to its self ignition temperature; it does not ignite the fuel itself. The other three pairings are correct. Working the distinction through on a single concrete case fixes it more firmly than any rule of thumb. Most errors here come from carrying across a result from a neighbouring case where it does not hold. A symptom that appears under one condition and not another is what narrows the diagnosis quickly.
