Statement: Should there be a complete ban on use of all types of chemical pesticides in India?
Arguments:
1. No. The pests will destroy all the crops and the farmers will have nothing to harvest.
2. Yes. The chemical pesticides used in agriculture pollute the water underground and this has become a serious health hazard.
Answer: E
Correct answer: Both I and II are strong
Both arguments name real consequences and both carry weight. Without pesticides much of the crop would be lost to pests, which is argument 1; and the chemicals do contaminate soil, water and the food itself, which is argument 2. The question turns on balancing the two. Both are strong.
