Statement: Neither fascism nor communism has any chance of succeeding in America.
Assumptions:
1. American people are strongly in favour of preserving the rights of the individual.
2. Americans have so far not suffered any pangs of poverty or deprivation.
Answer: A
Correct answer: Only assumption I is implicit
To say that neither creed can succeed in America is to suppose something in the country that resists both, and what both threaten is individual liberty - assumption I. Assumption II, about Americans never having known want, is not what the claim rests on. Only I is implicit.
