Arrange these centre of gravity positions from most to least stable:
1. Well forward, near the forward limit
2. Mid range, at the design cruise position
3. Well aft, near the aft limit
4. Behind the neutral point

Answer: D
Static margin falls steadily as the centre of gravity moves aft, reaching zero at the neutral point and becoming negative beyond it. The last position is statically unstable and would require artificial stability to be flyable.
