An aircraft cruises at \( M = 0.80 \) with \( 25 \) degrees of sweep. What normal-component Mach number does the section experience?
Answer: B
The component is \( 0.80 \times \cos 25^\circ = 0.80 \times 0.906 = 0.725 \). Modest sweep buys a correspondingly modest benefit; getting the section down near Mach 0.7 from a cruise of 0.85 requires something closer to 35 degrees.
