Which among the following is the unit of measurement of the "Ecological Footprint" ?
Answer: A
The Ecological Footprint is measured in global hectares.
The footprint, developed by Mathis Wackernagel and William Rees, measures the area of biologically productive land and water needed to supply what a person or population consumes and to absorb its carbon dioxide emissions. Because land differs in productivity, areas are converted to global hectares, each representing a hectare of world-average productivity, so footprints and biocapacity can be compared across countries.
Gallons per capita measures water use. Cubic metres measure volume, as in a water footprint. Man-hours measure labour. None of these expresses demand on productive land, which is what the footprint counts.
