Agenda 21 is related to the Sustainable development issue.
Agenda 21 was adopted at the Rio Earth Summit (UNCED) in 1992 as a global action plan for sustainable development in the twenty-first century. Its forty chapters cover poverty, consumption, population, health, land, oceans, waste and the role of local governments and civil society.
Climate change and global warming were taken up through the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, also signed at Rio but a separate treaty, and acid rain is tackled by regional agreements such as the Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution. Agenda 21 touches these, but its subject is sustainable development as a whole.
