In 1986 Lee Shulman criticised teacher education for separating knowledge of content from knowledge of teaching and introduced pedagogical content knowledge: the understanding of how particular subject matter is best represented and taught to particular learners. He argued that teacher education must build both content and pedagogical knowledge, and their blend.
Carl Rogers is known for student-centred, humanistic education, Sigmund Freud for psychoanalysis, and Deng and Luke for later writing on subject matter in the curriculum. The idea in the stem is Shulman's.
