Calculate and interpret WHR with the help of the table below. Waist circumference of the man is 95 cm and hip circumference is 101 cm :
| Classification (risk of disease) | Men | Women |
|---|---|---|
| High risk | \(\gt\)1.0 | \(\gt\)0.85 |
| Moderately high risk | 0.90-1.0 | 0.80-0.85 |
| Optimal low risk disease | \(\lt\)0.90 | \(\lt\)0.80 |
Answer: B
The man is at moderately high risk.
Waist-to-hip ratio is the waist circumference divided by the hip circumference:
\[ \text{WHR} = \frac{95}{101} \approx 0.94 \]
For men the table gives 0.90 to 1.0 as moderately high risk, so 0.94 falls in that band.
It is above the optimal (low risk) limit of 0.90 and below the high-risk threshold of 1.0, so options A and C are wrong. 'Obese' is not one of the classifications in the table, and the WHR measures fat distribution, not obesity as such.
