The traditional technique of assessment is the written test.
Traditional assessment relies on paper-and-pencil tests of knowledge: multiple-choice, short-answer and essay questions, given under timed conditions.
Exhibitions, projects and event tasks are forms of alternative or authentic assessment. They ask students to perform or produce something in a realistic context, such as a game, a demonstration or a fitness plan, which is the newer approach that grew up as an alternative to written tests.
