Both ASP and ColdFusion allow for the coding of custom tags within an HTML document.

Both work the same way: tags of their own are written into an HTML file, the server interprets them and replaces them with the result, and the browser receives ordinary HTML. The languages and file extensions differ - .asp against .cfm - but the mechanism is the same.
