Consider the join of a relation R with relation S. If R has m tuples and S has n tuples, then the maximum size of join is
Answer: A
The maximum size of the join is mn tuples.
A join pairs each tuple of R with every tuple of S that satisfies the join condition. In the extreme case every pair satisfies it (or there is no condition at all), and the join becomes the Cartesian product, with \(m \times n\) tuples.
\(m + n\), \((m+n)/2\) and \(2(m+n)\) grow far more slowly than the product; for example, with \(m = n = 100\) the join can have 10,000 tuples, not 200.
