The diameter is 45 mm.
The ASAE standard for rear power take-off shafts specifies three types. Type 1 runs at 540 rpm and has a 35 mm (1 3/8 in) shaft with 6 splines. Type 2 runs at 1000 rpm on a 35 mm shaft with 21 splines. Type 3 runs at 1000 rpm on a 45 mm (1 3/4 in) shaft with 20 splines.
So a 1000 rpm shaft with 20 splines is the 45 mm Type 3. 35 mm is the shaft of Types 1 and 2, which have 6 and 21 splines, and 30 mm and 40 mm are not standard PTO shaft sizes.
