Who was the first Librarian of Imperial Library, Calcutta ?
Answer: A
The first Librarian of the Imperial Library, Calcutta, was John MacFarlane. He was appointed when the library was opened to the public in 1903 and he guided its early organisation.
Harinath De, B.S. Kesavan and S.R. Ranganathan are all well known Indian librarians, but they came later. Kesavan became the first Librarian of the National Library after independence, and Ranganathan was the librarian of Madras University, so neither was the first holder of the post.
