A shoe always has
Answer: A
Correct answer: A sole
The question asks what is always present, not what usually is. A shoe is a covering for the foot, and the sole is the part that separates the foot from the ground - without it there is no shoe. Laces are one fastening among several: slip-on shoes, sandals and boots with zips or buckles have none. A raised heel is a feature of some designs and absent from flat shoes and many sports shoes. A buckle is another fastening, rarer still.
