A cuboidal vessel is 10 m long and 8 m wide. To hold 380 cubic metres of liquid, what should be the height (in metres) of the cuboid?
Answer: B
The height is 4.75 m. Volume = length × width × height, so \[ h = \frac{380}{10 \times 8} = 4.75 \text{ m} \]
3.75, 5.75 and 6.75 m would hold 300, 460 and 540 cubic metres, not 380.
In general, volume = length x width x height, so dividing the volume by the area of the base (10 x 8 = 80 square metres) gives the height directly.
