Which quantity is the residence time of water in the atmosphere?
Answer: A
Dividing the mean precipitable water of about 25 millimetres by the global mean precipitation rate of about 2.5 millimetres a day gives a residence time near ten days. That short lifetime is why water vapour acts as a feedback rather than a forcing agent. It also explains why atmospheric moisture responds almost immediately to a change in temperature. Reading the definition literally, rather than recalling a formula, is the reliable route through questions of this shape.
