Which one of the following regarding Johad is correct ? Choose the correct option.
Answer: A
A johad is a community based rain water harvesting system.
Johads are traditional crescent-shaped earthen check dams built across slopes in Rajasthan and neighbouring areas to collect rainwater. The stored water is used directly and also seeps into the ground, recharging wells. Villages in Alwar district revived many of them through community effort, and NCERT's EVS books use them as an example of traditional water management.
A johad does not filter water, pump groundwater or store river water; it collects rain runoff.
