A chapter in EVS textbook of NCERT describes Wahida Prism and her experience in the Navy as a doctor. What are the reasons for including this chapter ?
(a) Her experience challenges gender stereotypes
(b) Her story gives a peep into the life of a medical officer in the armed forces
(c) Understanding that prism reflects 7 colours
(d) Understanding the difficulties faced by her and her ways of tackling them
Answer: D
The reasons are (b), (d) and (a).
A chapter on a woman doctor in the Navy shows children a woman in a role often thought of as male, challenging gender stereotypes (a); it gives a glimpse of the life and work of a medical officer in the armed forces (b); and it shows the difficulties she faced and how she tackled them, which can inspire children (d).
Statement (c) only plays on her name: the chapter is not about how a prism splits light into seven colours, so every option including (c) is wrong.
