With reference to Colonialism the following distinct phases are visible in the post Renaissance practice :
1) Commercial and industrial colonialism
2) New Imperialism
3) Neo-colonialism and Globalization
4) Cold war.
Which of the above phases are incorrect ?
Answer: D
Only the Cold War is not a phase of colonialism, so the answer is 4 only.
Historians describe modern colonialism in phases: commercial colonialism of the trading companies, followed by industrial colonialism once Europe's factories needed raw materials and markets; the New Imperialism of the late nineteenth century and the scramble for Africa; and, after formal independence, neo-colonialism and the economic dominance associated with globalisation.
The Cold War was a rivalry between the two superpower blocs after 1945. It shaped the age of decolonisation, but it is not itself a phase of colonial practice.
