Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing [ Question No: 1 To 8 ] :
What type of disease is anorexia nervosa classified as?
Your Answer : (Not Answered)
Correct Answer : B
Anorexia nervosa is classified as a psychiatric disease.
Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder listed in the psychiatric classifications (DSM-5 and ICD). Its core features are restriction of food intake leading to a markedly low body weight, an intense fear of gaining weight, and a distorted perception of body shape.
It produces endocrine and metabolic effects, such as amenorrhoea and electrolyte disturbances, but these are consequences of starvation, not the cause. Genes may raise the risk, but it is not a genetic disease in the sense of being caused by a single inherited defect.
Which type of schizophrenia is associated with psychomotor activity?
Your Answer : (Not Answered)
Correct Answer : D
The type is Catatonic schizophrenia.
Catatonic schizophrenia is dominated by disturbances of psychomotor activity: stupor, rigidity, posturing, waxy flexibility, negativism, or bouts of purposeless excitement.
Paranoid schizophrenia is marked by delusions of persecution and hallucinations. Hebephrenic (disorganised) schizophrenia shows disorganised speech, behaviour and silly, inappropriate affect. Residual schizophrenia is a later stage with mainly negative symptoms.
CAGE questionnaire is used to screen :
Your Answer : (Not Answered)
Correct Answer : C
The CAGE questionnaire screens for Alcoholism.
CAGE is a four-question test, each letter standing for one question: have you felt you should Cut down on drinking, have people Annoyed you by criticising your drinking, have you felt Guilty about it, and have you needed a drink first thing in the morning (an Eye-opener)? Two or more yes answers suggest alcohol dependence.
Other tools are used for drug abuse, depression and mania; CAGE is specific to alcohol.
All these are symptoms of mania except :
Your Answer : (Not Answered)
Correct Answer : C
The one that is not a symptom of mania is Calm and depressed mood.
Mania is marked by an elevated or irritable mood, increased psychomotor activity, flight of ideas with racing, excessive thoughts, pressured speech, grandiosity and a reduced need for sleep.
A calm, depressed mood is the opposite of mania and belongs to depression, the other pole of bipolar disorder. The remaining three options are typical features of mania.
'Bereavement overload' is very common among ______ .
Your Answer : (Not Answered)
Correct Answer : D
Bereavement overload is most common among the elderly.
Bereavement overload is the term, from the psychologist Robert Kastenbaum, for the strain of losing many loved ones within a short time, so that one grief has not been worked through before the next arrives. Old people face it most often, as spouses, siblings and friends of their own generation die one after another.
Infants, adolescents and younger adults do suffer bereavement, but repeated losses close together are much less common at those stages of life.
A person having insight is :
Your Answer : (Not Answered)
Correct Answer : A
A person with insight is aware and understands own illness.
In psychiatry, insight is the patient's awareness that he or she is ill and understanding of the nature of the illness and the need for treatment. Insight is often lost in psychoses such as schizophrenia and mania.
Awareness of the drugs given or of results is narrower than insight, and 'not aware of self' describes a lack of insight, the opposite of the term.
Therapeutic blood levels of lithium are :
Your Answer : (Not Answered)
Correct Answer : B
The therapeutic blood level of lithium is 0.8 - 1.2 mEq/L.
Lithium, used to treat and prevent mania in bipolar disorder, has a narrow therapeutic range, so its serum level must be checked regularly. Levels of about 0.8 to 1.2 mEq/L are effective.
0.5-0.8 mEq/L is at the low end, used for some maintenance cases but below the usual therapeutic range. Levels of 1.2-1.5 mEq/L approach toxicity, and above 1.5 mEq/L toxic effects such as tremor, vomiting, confusion and seizures appear.
Which drug is used for patient with depression?
1. Loperamide 2. Imipramine
3. Nortriptyline 4. Amoxapine
Choose the most appropriate option from below :
Your Answer : (Not Answered)
Correct Answer : C
Drugs 2, 3 and 4 are antidepressants, so the answer is Only 2, 3 and 4 are correct.
Imipramine and nortriptyline are tricyclic antidepressants, and amoxapine is a closely related tetracyclic antidepressant. All three increase the action of noradrenaline and serotonin in the brain and are used to treat depression.
Loperamide is an antidiarrhoeal drug that slows the movement of the gut, so any option that includes 1 is wrong, and 'Only 2 and 4' leaves out nortriptyline.
