Transportation Engineering [ Question No: 1 To 2 ] :

Your Answer : (Not Answered)
Correct Answer : D
The method not used for speed and delay studies is the Pavement Unevenness Method.
Speed and delay studies measure journey times, running speeds and the location and causes of delays along a route. The usual methods are the floating car (moving observer) method, the license plate method, photographic techniques, elevated observers and interviews.
Pavement unevenness is measured with instruments such as the bump integrator to assess riding quality of the road surface. It is a pavement evaluation test, not a traffic study, so it is the odd one out.
Ring and Ball apparatus is used for the following test of bitumen:
Your Answer : (Not Answered)
Correct Answer : D
The Ring and Ball apparatus is used for the Softening Point test.
A steel ball is placed on a disc of bitumen held in a brass ring, and the water or glycerine bath is heated at a fixed rate. The temperature at which the softened bitumen sags and lets the ball touch a plate 25 mm below is the softening point.
Penetration is measured with a penetrometer needle, viscosity with a viscometer, and ductility with a ductility machine that stretches a briquette.
