Giuliana Furci was hiking through a temperate rainforest with an antenna strapped to her back in search of an elusive fox when she stumbled across the mushroom that would change her life. Fungi are equally important to
humans. Even though they often provoke disgust or even fear these organisms are responsible for everything from bread to beer to antibiotics. Fungi not only feed us they also heal us. Statins from which we get cholesterol
lowering compounds are from mushrooms only. Medicines like penicillin come from moulds. Fungi also have a vital role to play in addressing the climate crisis thanks to their ability to sequester carbon and encourage
biodiversity. There is even an Amazonian fungus that can break down plastics. They are fundamental for maintaining the balance in every sense in the environment. There are few better places to study these organisms than Chile
which Furci describes as a fungi hotspot. The north is covered by the driest desert outside the poles in the world and the central regions have a Mediterranean style climate. And the south is blanketed by rainforests glaciers fjords
and tundra. It has one of the longest coastlines and biggest mountain ranges in the world as well as several subtropical islands. The diversity of these ecosystems translates directly into the diversity of the fungi. Every time I go
into the field I find new species it is like a goldmine. In an hour I can collect more than hundred species of fungi. There is consensus in the mycological community that we only know about a few fungal species on Earth.
Indigenous peoples such as the Mapuche who now live predominantly in the Araucania region on the northern edge of Patagonia have long use wild fungi for food and medicine. This is something Furci is keen to explore. The
elders programme of fungi foundation is mapping every known ancestral and traditional use of fungi in the world. We have coevolved with fungi from the beginning of our existence. And we see that many of the problems of the
Earth for people and the planet have solutions in the kingdom of fungi. Furci is trying to change these attitudes working closely with chefs and raising awareness about the mushrooms of the country. Through the Fungi
Foundation Furci is trying to create a bigger domestic market for Chilean mushrooms. The organisation teaches producers about sustainable harvesting and packaging techniques and helps chefs identify and source ingredients
from ecofriendly suppliers. It is indeed a beautiful relationship. There is never been a penny traded between any of us. It is the mission of the foundation to bring justice to these organisms and the chefs are doing their bit by using
native ingredients. Looking to the future Furci is plotting expeditions beyond Chile to search for new species of fungi working on education projects to ensure children learn as much about the organisms as they do about plants
and animals and campaigning for fungi to be included in conservation agreements worldwide. Travellers may struggle to replicate forays of Furci into the wilderness but there are more accessible ways to explore the myriad
fungal species of southern Chile. She highlights the Route of Parks. The diversity is so high there are moments in autumn that you cannot walk without stepping on a mushroom.

Sub-Section Number : 1 Sub-Section Id : 2549899307 Question Shuffling Allowed : No Is Section Default? : Yes Question Number : 79 Question Id : 25498944418 Question Type : TYPING TEST Display Question Number : Yes Calculator : None किताबें ज्ञान का भंडार होती हैं। इनमें हर तरह का ज्ञान भरा होता है। ये मानव की सबसे बेहतरीन मित्र होती हैं। किताबें इंसान को सही पथ दिखने का काम करती हैं और उसे गलत राह पर चलने से सदैव रोकती हैं। कोई भी किताब किसी इंसान या ज्ञानी आदमी के ज्ञान व अनुभवो का विवेचन होती हैं। कम समय में अधिक से अधिक जानकारी व ज्ञान पाने का किताब ही बेहतरीन जरिया हैं। किताबें इंसान की समझ को बहुत विकसित बनाती हैं। जीवन में जितनी भी किताबें पढ ली जाये उतनी कम हैं। दुनियाभर की भाषाओं में इंसान के जीवन को बेहतरीन बनाने वाले न जाने कितने ही तरीके हैं जो की किताबों में उके रे गये हैं। जनसाधारण तक ज्ञान के भंडार को किताबों के जरिये सुगमता से पहुंचाने के लिए ही किताब मेलों का आयोजन किया जाता हैं। लोगों की किताबों से निकटता बढाने के लिए व उनमें पठन की अभिरुचि पैदा करने के लिए किताबों और पाठकों के बीच दू री कम करना बहुत जरुरी हैं। इसके अलावा किताबें छपकर यदि दुकानों तक सीमित रह जाती हैं या फिर यदि वे के वल किसी जगह की शोभा मात्र बनी रहती हैं तो आम आदमी उनसे अनभिज्ञ ही रह जाता है। ऐसे में किताबों का प्रचार प्रसार करना जरूरी हो जाता है। इस मकसद को पूरा करने में भी किताब मेले विशेष भूमिका निभाते हैं। अब ऐसे मेलों की लोकप्रियता बढती जा रही है। किताब मेलों के विषय पर लोगो की दो तरह की राय हैं। पहली राय यह कि ये मेले दिखावा बनकर रह जाते हैं। पाठक इन तक पहुंच ही नही पाता हैं। ये मेले सही मकसद को पूरा करने में सफल नहीं हो पाते हैं। इसके विपरीत दू सरी राय यह है कि किताब मेले बहुत उपयोगी होते हैं। जनसाधारण तक किताबें पहुचाने और किताबों के विज्ञापन व प्रकाशकों की बिक्री बढाने का ये बेहतरीन तरीका हैं। मेरे विचार से किताब मेलों का आयोजन बहुत उपयोगी होता है। कई बार ऐसा होता है कि एक किताब को खोजने के लिए हमें बाज़ार की कई दुकानों पर घूमना पडता है। न मिलने पर किसी दू सरे बाज़ार में भी घूमना पडता है। किताब मेलों में एक ही कोशिश में सभी प्रकाशकों व लेखकों और मशहूर विचारकों की किताबे मिल जाती हैं। किताब मेलों में किसी एक देश के ही नहीं कई बाकी देशों के प्रकाशक भी अपनी दुकान लगाते हैं। इसी वजह से वहां सभी किताबें आसानी से मिल जाती हैं। इतना ही नहीं ग्राहकों को लुभाने और अपनी बिक्री बढाने के लिए वे विशेष छू ट भी देते हैं। ऐसे में पाठकों और क्रे ताओं को दोहरा लाभ होता है। किताब मेलों का आयोजन और भी उपयोगी एवं लोकप्रिय हो सकता है अगर किताब मेलों को शहर में अनेक जगहों पर आयोजित किया जाए तथा इनके आयोजन से पहले बेहतर संचार से विधिवत लोगों को इसके विषय में सही जानकारी दी जाए। किताबों को कम से कम कीमतों पर बेचा जाए लेकिन इससे प्रकाशकों को घाटा भी न हो और पाठकों को लाभ भी मिल जाए। किताब मेलों की उपयोगिता बिना संदेह बहुत अधिक है। गरीब छात्रों और पाठकों के लिए इनकी उपयोगिता और भी गंभीर एवं विशाल बन जाती है। ज्ञान का आलोक फै लाने के लिए ऐसे मेलों का आयोजन किया जाना बहुत ही जरुरी है। प्रगति मैदान में हर साल एक विशाल किताब मेले का आयोजन किया जाता है। Restricted/ Unrestricted : Unrestricted Paragraph Display : Yes Keyboard Layout : Remington Show Details Panel : Yes Show Error Count : Yes Highlight Correct or Incorrect Words : Yes Allow Back Space : Yes Show Back Space Count : Yes
