Case study based on the contents of syllabus:Case Study-1
You are a police officer. One day you get a call from a lady saying that she, her
husband and her family are facing a life threat from her father as she had run
away from home a few days ago and entered into an inter-caste marriage of her
own free will. Her father and entire family are angry with this marriage and have
threatened her that they will not leave her, her husband and her in-laws alive.
She tried to register an FIR in this regard in the concerned police station but the
officials there did not register her FIR. She is now hiding in some secret place
with her in-laws. She may come to you if you promise to protect her, and then she
hangs up.
As soon as the lady disconnects the call, you get a call from your senior officer
that his niece has run away from home and got into an inter-caste marriage of
her own free will. Due to this, his family has been humiliated in the fraternity
and he considers it a stigma on his family. He and his family want to take
revenge from all of them. They have come to know where these people are hiding
at this time. He orders you to arrest her husband and the entire family from the
place told by him and implicate them in such a false crime that they cannot even
get bail and their entire family remains in jail for years. You are not against
inter-caste marriages and you oppose him, then he also threatens you that he has
your Annual Confidential Report(ACR) with him and if you do not obey him, he
will make adverse entries in it, as a result, your promotion due this year will not
happen.

Case study based on the contents of syllabus:Case Study-2
In the district where you are posted, roads have been built only a few months ago.
To make more profit, the road building firm used sub-standard quality raw
material, as a result, the road started breaking down and huge potholes formed
on the road. Due to these pits, accidents often started happening on the road.
When people made a written complaint about this, then an inquiry committee
was formed to check the quality of the road.
You have been made the chairman of the road quality inspection committee. The
inquiry committee found that low-quality material was used in the construction
of the road and the work was not done properly, due to which the road was
crumbling and potholes were being formed in it at many places.
You were getting the report of the inquiry committee typed for sending, when you
get a call from the owner of the road construction firm. He has come to know from
secret sources what report you are going to give. He asks you to change the
report. He asks you to make a report that his firm has done quality work and that
it is clear that the road is damaged due to natural causes. If you obey him, he will
give you a good amount, so that your family will not be short of money for years,
otherwise he threatens you to be ready to face the consequences. You are aware of
the criminal tendency of the owner of the firm and his high clout.

The concepts of fraud and corruption can be defined in a number of ways,
depending on the context in which it is used. Throughout the history of
civilizations, corruption and fraud have been present as m^or problems in all
societies, both past and present. It has been present in all forms of governance, be
it monarchies, regimes of military dictators, religious regimes or regimes
controlled by elected officials in democratic societies. With regard to corruption, if
there are people in positions of power who have the opportunity to make decisions
and allocate resources then the opportunity for corruption exists. In short,
corruption can be found in almost any oi^anization or group that has some sort of
power structure such as businesses and commercial enterprises, public service
agencies, such as police and welfare agencies, hospitals, nursing homes,
educational institutions, religious organizations, and government agencies.
Corruption is defined as the misuse of power to obtain illegal advantage. To
engage in corruption, a person most hold a position of power of some kind that
gives the person an opportmiity to abuse the position to take improper action, or
fail to act on matters related to the responsibilities of the position. A person
engaging in corruption is usually motivated by self-interest such as obtaining
money, promotion, or in some cases a desire to be known as having influence that
affects the outcome of cases. To engage in a corrupt act is generally defined as a
crime in most criminal codes, but corruption is also a mechanism or vehicle for
other crimes such as theft, embezzlement, and fraud.
