2'7 Read the following passage carefully arrd answer the quesrions given in the last of
this passage :
Both India and Russia changed phenomenally during the quaner century
since the Cold-War ended and the former Soviet Union disappeared although,
-
paradoxically, the outlook of the two countries b€ar greater resemblance than
before, as they took o globalization. Russia's perennial quest for habitation in a
'Common European Home' resumed, while India's desire for proximity lvith the
West no longer risks rebuff.
But appearances can be deceptrve in the world ofdiplomacy. The heart of the
matter is that Vladimir Putin's visir, which begins on December I l, is taking place
at a period of historical transition in lndian politics, which also happens to
coincide with the defining moment iD regional and world poliucs. Suffice it to say,
the India - Russia relationship is entering a fiansformadve period by sheer force of
circumslances and as characteristic of such periods, it is also lime for new
thinting.
