AP High Court Typist Copyist Syllabus, Exam Pattern
152 topics across 5 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
Typist and Copyist are two typing posts in the Andhra Pradesh judiciary that are usually advertised together. The High Court recruited them for its own staff in 2021, and for the district courts in 2025 as Notification Nos.3/2025-RC (Typist) and 6/2025-RC (Copyist), both dated 6 May 2025.
The district court round is the one to follow. Both posts had a CBT in August 2025 and a typing skill test on 15 March 2026. Provisional lists of selected Typists and Copyists were issued on 20 August 2026.

AP High Court Typist Copyist Details
Exam Pattern
| Stage | Details | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Computer based test | 40 General Knowledge and 40 General English, 90 minutes | 80 |
| Typing skill test | Mode announced separately | 50 |
The CBT is only a screening test and isn't added to the skill test. Qualifying marks in each stage: 40% for OC and EWS, 35% for BC, 30% for SC, ST and persons with disabilities.
Syllabus
The CBT has General Knowledge (art and culture, history, geography, economy, polity, general science, awards, sports and current affairs of India and Andhra Pradesh) and General English (comprehension, error spotting, cloze test, para jumble, sentence completion, synonyms and antonyms, idioms, one word substitution). The Typist paper is at graduate standard and the Copyist paper at Intermediate standard.
Eligibility Criteria
- Typist (2025): a degree, the A.P. Government Technical Examination in English Typewriting at Higher Grade, and computer knowledge. Scale Rs 25,220–80,910.
- Copyist (2025): Intermediate and the same Typewriting Higher Grade; Lower Grade holders may be considered if Higher Grade candidates aren't available. Scale Rs 23,780–76,730.
- Age: 18 to 42 on 1 July 2025. Five extra years for SC, ST, BC and EWS, ten for persons with benchmark disabilities, and the usual rule for ex-servicemen. Serving contract, outsourcing and daily-wage staff of the courts are also relaxed, if they were within the age limit when first engaged.
- Language: working knowledge of a language of the district you pick. It is Telugu almost everywhere, Telugu and Kannada in Ananthapuram, Telugu and Tamil in Chittoor, and Telugu and Oriya in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram.
- Local status: each judicial district is a separate cadre. 80% of its posts go to locals and 20% are open to all. Local status is proved with study certificates for classes 7 to 10, or a Tahsildar's residence certificate.
Selection Process
Qualify in the CBT, take the typing test, and the final merit list uses the typing marks only. Ties go to the older candidate. In the Copyist notification, serving court staff on contract or daily wages add one mark per year of service in the skill test, up to ten. Copyist candidates who cleared the CBT pay an extra Rs 800 (Rs 400 for SC, ST and persons with disabilities) to sit the skill test.
Salary
Typist: Rs 25,220–80,910. Copyist: Rs 23,780–76,730. (The 2021 High Court notification gave Rs 16,400–49,870 under the older 2015 scale.)
How to Apply
Application was online only, on the High Court site and the district court sites, from 13 May to 2 June 2025. The fee was Rs 800 for OC, EWS and BC and Rs 400 for SC, ST and persons with benchmark disabilities of an A.P. recognised community. You pay once for each post and district, and it isn't refunded. OBC certificates were not accepted, BC claims needed a non-creamy-layer certificate, and EWS needed a Tahsildar certificate showing income under Rs 8 lakh.
