APSSB CGL Syllabus, Exam Pattern, Eligibility
173 topics across 6 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
The APSSB Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGLE) is how the Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection Board fills graduate-level Group C posts in state government offices: Upper Division Clerk, Personal Assistant (Stenographer Grade III), Librarian and, in some years, posts such as JICS/JACS in the Cooperation department. One objective paper decides the merit list.
The 2026 cycle is over. Advertisement No. 03/2026 came out on 9 March 2026 with 122 posts, the written exam was held on 30 August 2026 after a reschedule, and the final result was published on 18 September 2026. About 27,700 people applied.
APSSB has run a CGLE every year since 2021, with the advertisement in March to June. Expect the 2027 notice in the first half of 2027 on the advertisement page.

Exam Pattern
One objective paper, 200 marks, 2 hours, for every post:
| Section | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| General Awareness | 25 | 50 |
| General Intelligence & Reasoning | 25 | 50 |
| Arithmetical & Numerical Ability | 25 | 50 |
| English Language & Comprehension | 25 | 50 |
Each question carries 2 marks and there's no negative marking. You need 33% of the aggregate to be considered; there is no sectional cut-off. Personal Assistant applicants first sit a qualifying stenography test (dictation at 80 words a minute for 5 minutes, 45 minutes to transcribe on computer) and only those who pass it take the written paper.
Syllabus
The four sections follow the Common Examination Scheme the state adopted in August 2023, so the common syllabus notified on 8 October 2026 applies to CGLE too.
- General Awareness: current events, history, polity and the Constitution, geography, economics, everyday science, sports, art and culture, national and international organisations, and questions on Arunachal Pradesh.
- Reasoning: analogies, classification, series, coding, space visualisation, judgement and decision making, visual memory, verbal and non-verbal questions.
- Arithmetic: number system, simplification, fractions and decimals, LCM and HCF, ratio, percentage, average, profit and loss, discount, simple and compound interest, mensuration, time and work, time and distance, tables and graphs, data interpretation.
- English: error spotting, fill in the blanks, synonyms and antonyms, spelling, idioms, one-word substitution, sentence improvement, voice, narration, jumbled sentences, cloze test and comprehension.
Eligibility Criteria
| Post | Qualification (2026) | Age |
|---|---|---|
| Upper Division Clerk | Bachelor's degree, plus a diploma in computer application of at least 6 months recognised by the Arunachal Pradesh Council for Technical Education or AICTE | 18 to 35 |
| Personal Assistant (Steno Gr III) | Bachelor's degree and a diploma in stenography | 18 to 35 |
| Librarian | Bachelor's degree with a degree or diploma in library science | 18 to 35 |
| JICS/JACS | Bachelor's degree | 18 to 35 |
Age and qualifications are counted on the closing date. APST candidates get up to 5 years of relaxation and PwBD candidates more under state orders.
The 2026 CGLE was open to any Indian citizen, with unreserved seats alongside APST ones. That will change: a state notification of 26 August 2026 sets a uniform rule for direct recruitment that needs a Permanent Residence Certificate of Arunachal Pradesh, an APST certificate and the ability to speak an indigenous tribal language of the state. APSSB advertisements issued after that date already apply it.
Selection Process
Final merit is the written score alone. The Board shortlists candidates for document verification from the written result, then allots posts and departments by merit and by the order of preference you gave in the form. That preference cannot be changed after you submit, so rank the departments carefully. For Personal Assistant, the stenography test only decides who may sit the paper; it adds no marks.
Salary
All CGLE posts in 2026 were at Level 5 of the pay matrix, ₹29,200 to ₹92,300 a month basic, plus state allowances.
How to Apply
Apply online only, through the APSSB portal. You upload a photo (50 to 100 KB) and signature (10 to 50 KB) and pay online: ₹150 for APST and ₹200 for unreserved candidates in 2026, with PwD candidates exempt. Mark your post and department preferences in the same form.
Important Dates
| Event (CGLE 2026) | Date |
|---|---|
| Advertisement No. 03/2026 | 9 March 2026 |
| Addendum adding 7 posts | 11 March 2026 |
| Applications (revised window) | 27 April to 19 May 2026 |
| Stenography test (PA only) | June 2026; result 9 July 2026 |
| Admit cards | 14 to 27 August 2026 |
| Written exam | 30 August 2026, 11 am to 1 pm |
| Provisional result | 5 September 2026 |
| Document verification | 16 September 2026 |
| Final result | 18 September 2026 |
The original dates (exam on 31 May) were pushed back by a notice of 23 April 2026. Earlier advertisements: 11 April 2025, 6 June 2024, 28 April 2023.
Admit Card
E-admit cards are downloaded from the admit card page about two weeks before the exam; for 2026 the window was 14 to 27 August. Bring it with an original photo ID (Aadhaar, voter ID, PAN, driving licence). The gate closes 30 minutes before the start.
Result
APSSB posts the question paper and provisional key, opens a short answer key challenge on the portal, then publishes a provisional list for document verification and a final list with each selected candidate's marks, category and allotted department. Individual OMR sheets and mark sheets are released later under View MarkSheet and OMR. All of it is on the results page.
Cut Off
APSSB does not publish a separate cut-off list. The final result notice prints the total marks of everyone recommended, post by post and department by department, so the lowest score in each block is the effective cut-off for that cycle.
Preparation Tips
- Work through the CGLE papers and keys on the Board's previous question papers page. The four sections come from the state's Common Examination Scheme of August 2023.
- Arunachal questions turn up in General Awareness: districts, tribes, festivals, rivers, state schemes and recent state news.
- With no negative marking, answer every question.
- For UDC, check that your computer diploma is from an institution recognised by the state council or AICTE before applying.
