Another 87 posts are horizontally reserved for dependants of freedom fighters. Both horizontal figures sit inside the category totals. A fresh requisition received before the written exam may be added, and the number of posts can rise or fall by amendment.
District Police and Bihar Special Armed Police vacancies are filled in one process. You record your preference in the application form, and it's honoured in merit order.
The thing most candidates get wrong: the written exam and the physical test don't count towards rank. Both are qualifying. The merit list comes from the driving test, plus a weightage of up to 25 marks for past contract service as a Bihar Police driver. The formula is under selection process.

Exam Pattern
Stage one: written exam
| Papers | One |
| Questions and marks | 100 questions, 100 marks |
| Duration | Two hours |
| Marking | One mark per correct answer. No deduction is prescribed for a wrong answer |
| Mode | OMR sheet, in two copies; the Board keeps the carbonless duplicate for one year after the final list |
| Counts for rank? | No. Qualifying only |
The category minimums:
| Category | Minimum in the written exam |
|---|---|
| Unreserved (General) | 40 per cent |
| Backward Class | 36.5 per cent |
| Backward Class, Annexure-1 | 34 per cent |
| Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and women of every category | 32 per cent |
Below the minimum, you're out. From those who clear it, five times the vacancies, category-wise, go to the physical test. The Board can reduce that ratio, and everyone on the category cut-off mark is called. If the paper runs in more than one shift, marks are normalised by the Equi-Percentile Method.
Stage two: Physical Efficiency Test
Compulsory, qualifying, no marks and no relaxation. Women must declare they're not pregnant; pregnant women can't take part.
| Event | Men | Women |
|---|---|---|
| Race | 1 mile (1.6 km) in 7 minutes max | 1 km in 7 minutes max |
| High jump | 3 feet 6 inches | 2 feet 6 inches |
| Long jump | 10 feet | 7 feet |
| Shot put | 16 pounds, thrown 14 feet | 12 pounds, thrown 8 feet |
Three attempts at each jump and throw. Miss any one minimum and you're out, with no chance at the remaining events. Transgender candidates follow the women's norms.
Stage three: Motor Vehicle Driving Efficiency Test
Out of 100, and it makes the merit list. The jeep and car are reversed into a rectangular track through the AH and BG lanes, turned about inside, and reversed out through BG and AH. If any part of the vehicle touches a pole or the boundary, you're disqualified.
| Segment | Length |
|---|---|
| A to H, and B to G | 8 feet 6 inches |
| B to C, and F to G | 11 feet 3 inches |
| C to D, and E to F | 25 feet 6 inches |
| D to E, and C to F | 31 feet |
| A to B, and H to G | 21 feet |
| Test | Max marks | Who may take it |
|---|---|---|
| Jeep | 40 | Everyone |
| Car | 40 | Everyone |
| Bus or truck | 20 | HMV licence holders only |
| Time (jeep and car, each) | Gear changes | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 1 minute | 3 gears | 40 |
| Up to 1 minute | 5 gears | 32 |
| More than 1, up to 2 minutes | 5 gears | 24 |
| More than 2, up to 3 minutes | 5 gears | 16 |
Over 3 minutes or more than 5 gear changes: no marks, and you can't take the other events.
| Bus or truck task | Marks |
|---|---|
| All gear changes without the gears making a noise | 8 |
| Figure of eight, forward | 4 |
| Figure of eight, in reverse | 8 |
The bus or truck test has no minimum, nobody is disqualified for failing or skipping it, and its marks go straight into the merit total. So an HMV holder competes for 100 driving marks and an LMV holder for 80.
Syllabus
The advertisement gives the syllabus as shares of the written paper, and points to csbc.bihar.gov.in for the detail.
| Area | Share | Of 100 questions |
|---|---|---|
| General Knowledge and current affairs | 60 per cent | 60 |
| The Motor Vehicles Act and other relevant rules, and traffic signs and signals | 20 per cent | 20 |
| Parts of various vehicles, lubrication and maintenance, and the mechanical and technical faults that arise in vehicles | 20 per cent | 20 |
The paper is only a gate, so what you need from it is the category minimum and a place inside five times the vacancies. The test that ranks you is the driving test, which you practise rather than read for.
Eligibility Criteria
- Indian citizens only.
- Licence: an LMV or HMV driving licence issued by the competent authority at least one year before the advertisement was published. A newer licence doesn't qualify. An HMV licence also opens the 20-mark bus and truck test.
- Education: a pass in Intermediate (10+2) or equivalent, which is mandatory.
Physical standards
| Category | Height | Chest, unexpanded | Chest, expanded |
|---|---|---|---|
| Men, Unreserved and Backward Class | 165 cm | 81 cm | 86 cm |
| Men, Extremely Backward Class | 160 cm | 81 cm | 86 cm |
| Men, SC and ST | 160 cm | 79 cm | 84 cm |
| Gorkhas of Indian origin, for Bihar Special Armed Police-01 (Gorkha Battalion) only | 160 cm | 79 cm | 84 cm |
| Women, all categories | 155 cm | n/a | n/a |
Men need at least 5 cm chest expansion. Women need a minimum weight of 48 kg. Transgender candidates follow the women's standards.
Age
From the date of birth on the matriculation certificate. The minimum is 20, not 18.
| Category | Minimum | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Unreserved | 20 | 25 |
| BC and EBC, men | 20 | 27 |
| BC and EBC, women | 20 | 28 |
| SC and ST, and transgender candidates | 20 | 30 |
Anyone who has worked on contract as a Bihar Police Driver Constable gets upper age relaxation up to the period of that contract.
Reservation
- Only on a certificate from the competent State Government authority, and only if you claim it in the application.
- Caste reservation is for original residents of Bihar. The permanent address on your form counts as your residence, and a permanent residence certificate is compulsory.
- A reserved-category candidate from outside Bihar is Unreserved, and must declare that in the form, or the application is rejected automatically.
- Women, 35 per cent: under General Administration Department resolution 12575 of 9 July 2025, allowed in full only to women who are original residents of Bihar. Unfilled seats carry forward to the next recruitment year, then go to women higher in the merit list. Women can also be appointed on merit above the 35 per cent.
- Freedom fighters' dependants, 2 per cent: for grandsons, granddaughters and daughters' children of freedom fighters with a Centre-sanctioned pension (GAD letter 2526 of 18 February 2016). You need the certificate signed by the District Officer of your home district, in the form set by letter 11687 of 30 August 2016. A successor's identity certificate won't do.
| Category | Certificates |
|---|---|
| SC and ST | Caste, and permanent residence or domicile |
| BC and EBC | Caste, permanent residence, and Non-Creamy Layer from the Anchal or Revenue Officer of your permanent residence anchal. If it's over a year old, attach a Form xviiiB declaration |
| EWS | Under the Bihar (Economically Weaker Sections) Reservation Act, 2019, for the year stated |
A married woman's caste and Non-Creamy Layer certificates must be in her father's name and address, not her husband's. Every certificate must be held by the last date for applying (or the extended date); one issued later isn't accepted, and missing originals at verification can cancel your candidature.
Selection Process
- Written exam, 100 marks, qualifying only.
- Physical Efficiency Test, four events, qualifying only.
- Driving Efficiency Test, 100 marks. This makes the merit list.
- Document verification.
Details of each test are under exam pattern.
The merit formula
| Component | Contribution |
|---|---|
| Driving test marks, out of 100 | × 0.75, so a maximum of 75 |
| Contract service as a Driver Constable in the Bihar Police organisation | 5 marks per completed full year, max 25 |
| Maximum merit mark | 100 |
The advertisement's example: 95 in the driving test × 0.75 = 71.25, plus 25 for contract service = 96.25. Without the weightage, the same 95 gives 71.25.
A full year is 365 or 366 days actually completed (Bihar Police Headquarters letter P-04/04-01-58-2024/69 of 13 May 2025); part years don't count. Prove it with a Contract Employment Period Certificate from the Senior Superintendent of Police, Superintendent of Police, Commandant or equivalent of your district, battalion or unit.
Ties go to the older candidate, then the higher qualification, then English alphabetical order of the name on the tenth board certificate.
PET objections
You can object to a PET result within three days of the test. The Board decides it the day it's received.
Document verification
Educational qualification, age, driving licence and reservation claims are checked, usually on the day of the driving test. Attend in person with every original and a self-attested photocopy. There's no second chance and no extension.
After the merit list
Service is allotted on the preference you gave in the application, in merit order. If selected candidates don't join, the Director General of Police can ask for supplementary recommendation lists, which run for six months from the final result. In past cycles CSBC has also called below-the-line candidates for a waiting list.
The appointing authority is the District Senior Superintendent of Police, Superintendent of Police, Battalion Commandant, or an SP-rank officer nominated by the Director General of Police.
Salary
| Pay Matrix Level | Level 3 |
| Pay band | ₹21,700 to ₹69,100 |
The advertisement gives only the level and band. Allowances follow Bihar Government rules for the post and place of posting.
Medical and character checks
Before appointment, under the Bihar Police Manual, 1978: a medical under Form 103 and character and antecedent verification under Form 101, arranged by the appointing authority. An adverse report or concealed facts make you ineligible.
The medical standard is Rule 658(iv): free from any disease, deformity or weakness that makes you unfit for duty. It checks vision, colour blindness, hearing, stammering, flat foot and knock knee. Stammering or lisping makes you ineligible.
How to Apply
| Apply | Online only, through links on csbc.bihar.gov.in |
| Window | 21 July to 20 August 2025 |
| Fee | ₹100 for every category, plus bank charges. No concession |
Think hardest about your preference between District Police and Bihar Special Armed Police. It's fixed in the form and decides your posting.
Have these ready
- Photo ID: Aadhaar, driving licence, voter ID or similar.
- Matriculation certificate and mark sheet (date of birth proof).
- Intermediate pass certificate and mark sheet.
- The driving licence, issued at least a year before the advertisement.
- Your category certificates (see eligibility).
- Transgender candidates: the District Officer's certificate in Form 3 or Form 4 under the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Rules, 2020.
- Past contract drivers: the Contract Employment Period Certificate.
After applications close the Board publishes a list of invalid applications with reasons, and correction windows for photo, signature or gender errors. It also warns about phone calls demanding money for fraudulent assurances.

Its site is csbc.bihar.gov.in; on 12 May 2026 it announced a newly developed official website, linked from the original.
Exam Centres
The written exam is held at centres across Bihar, listed by roll number on csbc.bihar.gov.in. The PET and driving test are at grounds and tracks notified separately, each with its own admit card. The Board often corrects centre names, changes centres and reschedules physical and driving tests by notice, so check before you travel.
For the driving test and document verification, bring every original certificate, your licence and a self-attested photocopy of each.

Admit Card
There are three e-admit cards, one each for the written exam, the PET and the driving test, all downloaded from csbc.bihar.gov.in. Nothing is posted. The Board has published a specimen OMR sheet with the written admit card in past cycles.
If your admit card doesn't appear, check the list of invalid applications first; it gives the reason.
Result
CSBC publishes, on csbc.bihar.gov.in: the written result shortlisting for the PET, the PET result naming those qualified for the driving test (28 April 2026 for this cycle), the final selection list, and any supplementary lists. Alongside come notices on document submission, cancellations for impersonation or unfair means, confirmation of provisional selections, joining dates and allotment of districts and units.
Cut Off
CSBC publishes no category-wise closing marks for this exam in advance. The written exam minimums are fixed (40, 36.5, 34 and 32 per cent by category; see exam pattern), but the five-times shortlist line and the final merit line appear only in the results.
Past written, PET and final lists are on csbc.bihar.gov.in, going back to 2018. Note that the final scale isn't the same for everyone: without HMV, the driving test is out of 80 (60 after the 0.75 multiplier), and without contract service the merit maximum is 75.
Preparation Tips
Practise on the track
The driving test is the merit list, and the advertisement publishes the track's dimensions, so mark one out and practise. Aim for under a minute with three gear changes: that's 40, against 32 with five. Across the jeep and car that's 16 marks, or 12 after the multiplier. Never touch a pole.
Get an HMV licence if you can
It's a free 20 marks on the driving scale (15 after the multiplier) that nobody else can attempt. The licence has to be a year old when the advertisement comes out, so decide early.
Treat the written paper as a gate
Clear your category minimum and get inside five times the vacancies. General knowledge and current affairs are 60 per cent of it. There's no negative marking, so answer everything.
Train for all four PET events
Miss one and you're out. Long jump catches people who've only trained the usual three.
Sort your paperwork early
Past contract drivers: get the certificate, since it's worth up to 25 marks. Married women: certificates in your father's name. Candidates from outside Bihar: tick Unreserved.
Sample Papers
No sample papers or previous year question papers are available for this exam as of now. CSBC hasn't published any.
It does publish a specimen OMR sheet with the written exam admit card, and results from earlier driver cycles going back to 2018, on csbc.bihar.gov.in. The Advertisement No. 02/2025 itself carries the track diagram and the driving test mark tables.
