CWC Superintendent General Syllabus, Exam Pattern
181 topics across 6 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
CWC Superintendent General is direct recruitment to Superintendent (General) in the Central Warehousing Corporation, a Navratna central PSU under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.
The post is Superintendent (General), not "Junior Superintendent"; CWC has never advertised that. It's an E-1 executive post on Rs 40,000 to Rs 1,40,000 (IDA pattern), and needs a post graduate degree. CWC's junior posts are Junior Technical Assistant, Junior Personal Assistant and Junior Executive (Rajbhasha), all on the S-V scale of Rs 29,000 to Rs 93,000, with different papers.
The latest cycle is Advertisement No. CWC/1-Manpower/DR/Rectt/2024/01. Registration and fee payment ran from 14 December 2024 to 12 January 2025.

CWC Superintendent General Details
Exam Pattern
200 objective questions, 200 marks, 2 hours 30 minutes. Each section is separately timed, so you can't move time between them, and the advertisement says the order isn't fixed.
| Test | Questions | Marks | Time | Medium |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Reasoning and Computer Aptitude | 60 | 60 | 50 minutes | Hindi and English |
| Data Analysis and Interpretation, and Quantitative Aptitude | 60 | 60 | 50 minutes | Hindi and English |
| English Language | 40 | 40 | 25 minutes | English only |
| General Awareness | 40 | 40 | 25 minutes | Hindi and English |
| Total | 200 | 200 | 150 minutes |
That's 50 seconds a question in the two long sections and 37.5 seconds in English and General Awareness.
There's no Professional Knowledge section. Management Trainee, Accountant and Junior Technical Assistant each have one with a 60 per cent minimum, but a post graduate degree in any discipline leaves nothing subject-specific to test.
Negative marking
One fourth of a question's marks is deducted for a wrong answer, so 0.25 here. Blanks cost nothing. A blind guess on four options is worth 0.25 against 0.1875, a gain of about 0.06; with one option ruled out it's about 0.17, with two about 0.38.
Qualifying and shortlisting
You need a minimum score in each section and a minimum total. Neither is published, and CWC can relax or enhance them to fit the vacancies. Fall below the English minimum and you're out whatever your total.
| Post | Maximum ratio in order of merit for interview or document verification |
|---|---|
| Management Trainee (General and Technical), Accountant, Superintendent (General) | 1:5 |
| Junior Technical Assistant | 1:3 |
Interview
- Maximum 30 marks, halved to 15 for the combined score.
- Minimum: 50 per cent for unreserved and EWS, 45 per cent for OBC, 40 per cent for SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen.
- Weightage, online test to interview: 85 : 15. You must qualify both.
You won't see your online score before the interview; CWC releases it only after interviews are done.
Syllabus
The advertisement names the sections and their question counts but gives no topic list for Superintendent (General). It can change the structure through its website, and more detail comes in an Information Handout released with the call letters. The topics below are what these sections usually cover.
| Section | Marks | What it covers in practice |
|---|---|---|
| Reasoning and Computer Aptitude | 60 | Puzzles and seating arrangement, syllogism, inequality, coding and decoding, blood relations, direction sense, data sufficiency, input and output, order and ranking; and computers: hardware and software, operating systems, MS Office, internet, networking basics, database basics, shortcut keys and security. |
| Data Analysis and Interpretation, and Quantitative Aptitude | 60 | Tables, bar, line and pie charts, caselets, mixed and missing data interpretation; number series, simplification and approximation, quadratic comparisons; percentages, ratio and proportion, averages, profit and loss, simple and compound interest, time and work, time and distance, boats and streams, mixtures, probability and permutations. |
| English Language | 40 | Reading comprehension, cloze tests, error spotting, sentence improvement and rearrangement, fillers, word usage, vocabulary in context. English only. |
| General Awareness | 40 | Current affairs, banking and economic awareness, government schemes, national and international events, static awareness, and the warehousing, agriculture and food distribution work of the parent Ministry. |
It's built like a banking main exam: same section names, separately timed sections, 200 marks, one fourth penalty. The differences are a full 40-mark General Awareness section and no descriptive paper. The advertisement also says working knowledge of computers is an added advantage.
Eligibility Criteria
Qualification
A Post Graduate Degree in any discipline from a recognised University or Institution. No experience required. It's the most open post in the advertisement; the others ask for a specific MBA, agriculture or biochemistry degree, a commerce degree with experience, or a science degree.
- The qualification must be recognised by the Government of India or approved by its regulatory bodies.
- You must hold the marksheet or certificate on the last date of application.
- No equivalent qualification is accepted. For example, a PGDBM or PGDM doesn't count where an MBA is asked for.
Age
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Minimum | 18 years |
| Maximum | 30 years |
| Reckoned on | 12 January 2025, the last date of the application |
| In dates | Born not earlier than 13 January 1995 and not later than 12 January 2007, both days inclusive |
Relaxations follow Government of India orders where posts are reserved for that category. Departmental candidates get relaxation only with at least five years of service left. PwBD candidates with 40 per cent or more disability get the age concession whether or not the post is reserved for them, if the post suits their disability. This one is identified for one leg, one arm, acid attack victim, muscular disability, dwarfism, hard of hearing and low vision.
Vacancies
| Post code | Post | UR | SC | ST | OBC | EWS | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4 | Superintendent (General) | 13 | 03 | 02 | 02 | 02 | 22 |
| 6 | Superintendent (General) - SRD (NE) | 02 | − | − | − | − | 02 |
One of the 22 is reserved horizontally for PwBD (01). No backlog. Numbers are tentative.
The SRD posts are for the North Eastern Region (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim). If selected you're posted to Ladakh or the North East first and can be posted anywhere in India later.
EWS
Family income under Rs 8 lakh in the previous financial year, certificate from an officer not below Tehsildar. You're out of EWS, whatever the income, if the family owns 5 acres of farmland, a flat of 1,000 square feet, a plot of 100 square yards in a notified municipality, or 200 square yards elsewhere, with property in different places added together.
You can't change category after registering.
Selection Process
- Online test, 200 marks in four separately timed sections.
- Document verification, done at the interview.
- Interview, 30 marks, 15 per cent of the combined score.
The same applies to the SRD line, post code 6. Junior Technical Assistant has no interview; this post does.
You need the sectional and total minimums, then a place in the 1:5 shortlist: about 110 candidates for 22 posts and about ten for the two SRD posts. Then you must clear the interview minimum and rank high enough on the combined score. Details are in the exam pattern.
The interview, with originals of your category, nationality, age and qualification documents plus photocopies, is at a centre named in the interview call letter. Getting to that stage doesn't mean you're empanelled; the final merit list depends on vacancies, marks and document verification.
Misbehaviour in the exam hall can cancel your candidature and bar you from future CWC exams.

How to Apply
Apply online through the CWC careers portal, linked from cewacor.nic.in. Register separately for each post: the main line and the SRD line are two applications and two fees.
| Category | Application fee | Intimation charges | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| SC, ST, PwBD, ex-servicemen and women | Nil | Rs 500 | Rs 500 |
| Unreserved, EWS and OBC | Rs 850 | Rs 500 | Rs 1,350 |
The exemption covers the application fee, not the intimation charges. Amounts include GST; gateway charges are extra.
Last cycle's window was 14 December 2024 to 12 January 2025, which was also the date for age and qualification. You need a personal e-mail and mobile that stay active to the end; call letter alerts go there.
You can't change category after registering. Apply for a post you're not eligible for and you won't be considered even if you clear the marks, with no refund.

CWC is also the Central Water Commission (Ministry of Jal Shakti, cwc.gov.in), which is unrelated. Search results for "CWC recruitment" mix the two.
Besides direct recruitment, CWC's portal carries deputation circulars for senior posts, a yearly Young Professionals series and consultant engagements. None of those is this exam. It also recruits for CRWC, the Central Railside Warehouse Company, on a separate portal.
Exam Centres
The test is online at venues across India; a tentative centre list is Annexure I of the advertisement.
- No change of centre once allotted.
- CWC may cancel or add centres, and may give you a centre you didn't choose.
- You attend at your own risk and expense.
The interview is at a separate centre named in the interview call letter, with no change of date or centre on request.
Important Dates
| Event | Date as published |
|---|---|
| Online registration and fee payment | 14 December 2024 to 12 January 2025 |
| Download of call letter for the examination | Around 10 days before the examination |
| Online examination | Will be intimated later |
| Download of call letters for interview or document verification | Will be intimated later |
| Conduct of interview or document verification | Will be intimated later |
12 January 2025 was the reckoning date for age, qualification and departmental candidates' service. The exam may be held on more than one date.
CWC recruits directly only now and then, and for different posts each time: its portal, as at 12 September 2026, shows direct recruitment in 2019, 2024 and 2025, and the 2025 one was for other posts. Expect years between Superintendent (General) cycles. Watch the careers portal and cewacor.nic.in.
Admit Card
The call letter is downloaded from cewacor.nic.in about 10 days before the exam, with an alert to your registered e-mail. Download the Information Handout that comes with it.
Bring the call letter, an original photo ID with the same name as on the call letter and form, and a photocopy of the ID. Without all three you won't sit. Late arrival after the reporting time means no entry, and you may be at the venue for four hours or more for a 150-minute paper.
The interview call letter is a separate download.
Result
The result combines the online test and the interview at 85 : 15, after the sectional and total minimums and the 1:5 shortlist (see exam pattern). Online scores aren't shared until interviews finish.
CWC posts outcomes on its results portal: select lists, waiting lists, and notices releasing offers to wait-listed candidates rank by rank. Earlier cycles also let selected candidates download offer letters there. If you're wait-listed, keep watching.
Missing originals at document verification, a wrong category, or ineligibility for the post will undo a result.
Cut Off
CWC doesn't publish cut-off marks for this post, before or after the exam. It publishes select lists instead, on its results portal. The only fixed figures are the 1:5 shortlisting ratio and the interview minimums.
| Line | Vacancies | Approximate number called at 1:5 |
|---|---|---|
| Superintendent (General), post code 4 | 22 | about 110 |
| Superintendent (General) - SRD (NE), post code 6 | 02 | about 10 |
A "CWC Superintendent cut-off" you find online is a reconstruction, and one from the Central Water Commission isn't about this exam at all.
Preparation Tips
- Prepare as for a banking main exam. Section names, timing and penalty all match.
- Plan each section's clock. English, at 37.5 seconds a question with reading comprehension, needs the most planning. General Awareness you either know or don't.
- Protect your weakest section. Score 55 in each 60-mark section and 8 in English and you're likely out on the sectional rule.
- Guess only after ruling options out. A blind guess barely pays.
- Do the computer half properly. It shares the biggest section.
- Know what CWC does before the interview. It's 15 per cent, you go in blind on your score, and a gap between 20 and 28 out of 30 is four marks on the combined scale.
- Practise full 200-mark mocks with locked sections in random order, and a General Awareness set weighted to food, agriculture, warehousing and logistics.
- Decide on the SRD line early. Two unreserved posts, about ten candidates, and a first posting in Ladakh or the North East.
Sample Papers
No sample papers or previous year papers are available. CWC doesn't publish question papers, answer keys or model papers for this recruitment.
The closest official guides are the 2024 advertisement (46 pages: sections, timings, penalty, shortlisting) and the Information Handout released with the call letters about ten days before the exam. New advertisements appear on the CWC careers portal.
