Federal Bank Syllabus, Exam Pattern, Eligibility
132 topics across 6 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
Federal Bank is a private sector bank headquartered in Aluva, Kerala, with a national branch network. This covers its clerical and entry-level hiring; for officers see Federal Bank, Officer Scale 1.
No exam in the usual sense
Federal Bank isn't part of IBPS, has no annual calendar, and runs no standing exam with a fixed pattern, syllabus and cut-off. It advertises particular roles, when it needs them, with short registration windows, on its own portal.
You apply on Talent Connect, not the careers page
The Bank's site is now federal.bank.in. Its careers page has one link, Explore Opportunities, to a separate portal, federalbankcareers.zappyhire.com, branded Talent Connect. Every role is listed and applied for there, each with its own notification.
Most entry roles are sales jobs
Recent listings were Sales Officer (Corporate Salary), Apprentice, Associate Officer (Sales), Office Assistant and Officer, Sales and Client Acquisition. Four of the five are sales or client acquisition roles with targets, not the back-office clerkship a public sector bank hires for. Many candidates expect the latter.
Nothing is open now
As at 9 September 2026 the portal showed no live registrations. You can register a profile for future roles instead.

Federal Bank Details
Exam Pattern
Federal Bank publishes no standing scheme of examination. The selection method is set per role, in that role's notification under View Details on Talent Connect. Read that notification for the role you want.
What its selection usually involves
It leans on assessment and interview rather than a long written exam. The components a private bank like this draws on:
| Component | What it does |
|---|---|
| Online assessment | Where used, a general aptitude test: reasoning, quantitative aptitude, English, and general and banking awareness |
| Psychometric assessment | Not a test to revise for. It measures consistency and fit, and answering it as you think the Bank wants rather than consistently is how candidates come unstuck |
| Group discussion | Where used, on a current affairs, business or banking topic |
| Interview | Used in every route. This is where a private bank's selection is actually decided |
The role decides which apply, in what order, and whether there's a written stage at all. The portal shows each role's work location, experience requirement and closing date and time before you open the notification.
There's no prelims-and-mains structure, no sectional timing, no published cut-off and no merit list.
Syllabus
Where a role uses an online assessment, it typically covers the following.
English Language
Reading comprehension, cloze test, para jumbles, error spotting, sentence improvement, fill in the blanks, vocabulary, idioms and phrases. The bar is high because the role faces customers.
Quantitative Aptitude
Simplification and approximation, number series, data interpretation, percentage, ratio and proportion, average, profit and loss, simple and compound interest, time and work, time speed and distance, mixture and alligation, mensuration, probability.
Logical Reasoning
Puzzles and seating arrangement, syllogism, inequality, blood relations, direction sense, coding-decoding, order and ranking, alphanumeric series, data sufficiency, statement and conclusion.
General, Banking and Economy Awareness
Current affairs of the last six months, banking and financial awareness, the RBI and its functions, monetary policy, banking products, payment systems, financial inclusion schemes, the Union Budget and the Indian economy. Questions on Federal Bank itself (history, network, leadership, recent news) come up at interview even when they're not in the test.
Digital and Computer Awareness
Computer fundamentals, MS Office, internet and email, digital banking channels, UPI and payment apps, cyber security basics.
Eligibility Criteria
Qualification
A graduate degree from a recognised university for the clerical cadre, usually with a minimum percentage in the advertisement, commonly around 60% at graduation and often a minimum at class 10 and 12 too. This is where most candidates get ruled out; public sector clerical exams generally need only a pass.
Some advertisements specify or prefer streams; some Office Assistant advertisements set a lower qualification.
Age
Broadly up to 24 to 26 years for clerical entry, on the date in the advertisement. Private bank age bands are tighter than public sector ones, and Government of India relaxations don't apply automatically. Go by the advertisement.
Language
Branch roles generally expect proficiency in the local language of the state.
Selection Process
- Online aptitude test: a single objective test with a composite time limit.
- Personal interview, and for some posts a psychometric assessment or group discussion.
- Document verification and medical fitness.
The test screens; the interview carries most weight. There's no second written stage.
Salary
Federal Bank doesn't publish a pay scale. As a private bank it isn't bound by the bipartite settlement that fixes public sector bank pay, and each role's pay is set by the Bank and discussed during recruitment. Any "Federal Bank clerk salary" scale you see online isn't from the Bank.
Each role's terms are in its notification under View Details on Talent Connect.
| Role | What it is |
|---|---|
| Office Assistant | The clerical-grade entry, advertised for anywhere in India and open to freshers |
| Associate Officer (Sales) and Officer, Sales and Client Acquisition | Front-line sales and client acquisition roles, open to freshers and experienced candidates |
| Sales Officer, Corporate Salary | A specialist sales role requiring at least two years in the BFSI sector |
| Apprentice | A stipendiary training engagement, advertised for Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka |
Most of these are sales roles with targets. The careers page describes benefits and culture, but gives no pay figures.
How to Apply
Federal Bank's site moved to federal.bank.in; the old federalbank.co.in redirects there. (.bank.in is the domain the RBI has told Indian banks to move to.)
You don't apply on the careers page. Its Explore Opportunities link goes to federalbankcareers.zappyhire.com, branded Talent Connect.
How to apply
- Find the role on Talent Connect. Each shows its work location, experience requirement, closing date and time, and status (open or Registration Closed). A counter at the top shows how many registrations are live.
- Open View Details and read that role's notification. Save a copy; it may disappear once the listing closes.
- Register and apply before the deadline, which is given to the minute, e.g. 23:59 on a named date.
If nothing fits, use Register in Talent Connect to store a profile for future openings.
Locations are set per role (anywhere in India, a group of states, or as per notification). There's no zonal preference form and no allotment afterwards. The recent roles are listed under Important Dates.
Participating Institutes
One employer: Federal Bank, a private sector bank headquartered in Aluva, Kerala, nearly a century old by its own account, which describes itself as digital-first and people-centric.
| Federal Bank | A public sector bank | |
|---|---|---|
| Recruitment agency | Its own Talent Connect portal | Usually IBPS common recruitment process |
| Calendar | None. Role by role, as needed | Broadly annual |
| Pattern and syllabus | Set per role, not published as a standing scheme | Published and stable |
| Pay | The Bank's own, not published as a scale | Industry bipartite settlement, published |
| Cut-offs | Not published | Published per cycle |
IBPS Clerk or PO can never place you at Federal Bank.
Exam Centres
There may be no exam centre at all. Where a role has an online assessment it's usually taken remotely or at a venue the Bank names; interviews and psychometric tests are at the Bank's venue. The role's notification says which.
The work location is fixed by the role; applying means accepting it. Bring original certificates and ID to any in-person stage, since the Bank checks qualifications and experience during selection. Nothing on the portal promises a travel allowance.
Important Dates
There's no calendar. Roles are advertised as needed, with short windows and closing times to the minute. As at 9 September 2026, Talent Connect showed no live registrations.
Recent roles
| Role | Work location | Experience | Registration closed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sales Officer, Corporate Salary | as per recruitment details | minimum 2 years in the BFSI sector | 31 August 2026 |
| Apprentice | Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka | freshers and experienced | 17 March 2026 |
| Associate Officer (Sales) | as per notification | freshers and experienced | 4 March 2026 |
| Office Assistant | anywhere in India | freshers and experienced | 11 January 2026 |
| Officer, Sales and Client Acquisition | anywhere in India | freshers and experienced | 31 October 2025 |
Five roles in about ten months, mostly sales-led, broadly located, and open to freshers.
The portal gives a closing date but no opening date, so you won't get advance notice. Register a profile on Talent Connect and check it regularly.
Admit Card
There's no admit card or hall ticket. The Bank contacts you about each stage by the email and mobile on your Talent Connect application, so keep both live and check spam. Role status is shown on Talent Connect.
Result
No merit lists, shortlists, marks or cut-offs are published. A successful candidate gets an offer directly; an unsuccessful one often hears nothing, which is normal for private bank hiring. The portal shows only whether each role is open or closed.
Cut Off
Federal Bank publishes no cut-offs, because it runs no common exam that ranks a large field. Each role is filled from whoever applied to it.
The real filters are the experience requirement on the listing (the Sales Officer, Corporate Salary role needed two years in BFSI; others took freshers), the qualification in the role's notification, and how you do at interview. There's no published waiting list.
Preparation Tips
- Practise against one overall clock. With no sectional timing, candidates used to IBPS papers often overspend on one section.
- Prepare for the interview from the start. For branch roles it decides the outcome, and communication is genuinely assessed.
- Check the percentage requirement first.
- Know the bank. Its history, network, products and recent results come up in interview. Its investor relations page has the annual report, investor presentations and quarterly results.
- Be consistent in the psychometric test. Don't answer as you think the Bank wants.
- Take the structure from your own role's notification. It varies.
- Ignore "Federal Bank previous year papers". There's no fixed exam behind them. Generic bank aptitude practice covers the online test.
Sample Papers
No sample papers or previous year papers are available. Federal Bank holds no standing exam and publishes no papers or answer keys.
Each role's selection is described in its notification under View Details on Talent Connect. Roles appear at any time of year with short windows.
