ISRO Scientist CE Details
Eligibility Criteria
- BE/B.Tech or equivalent in Civil Engineering, with at least 65% aggregate (average of all semesters) or CGPA 6.84 out of 10, finished within the normal course duration.
- A valid GATE 2025 or GATE 2026 score in Civil Engineering (paper CE). Your degree subject and GATE paper must match.
- If your marksheet gives only a CGPA, the CGPA itself must meet 6.84. ISRO does not convert CGPA to percentage, whatever your university's rule.
- For dual or integrated degrees, the graduation-level figure is used where shown separately; otherwise the figure for the whole course.
- Age: 28 on 17 August 2026. UR and EWS candidates born on or after 18 August 1998; OBC on or after 18 August 1995; SC and ST on or after 18 August 1993. Category relaxations apply only where posts are reserved for that category.
- Indian nationals only.
Selection Process
Your GATE score (not marks or rank) decides the shortlist, at seven candidates per vacancy. The score you type into the form is checked against the scorecard, and a false entry can lead to criminal proceedings.
The interview is out of 100:
| Attribute | Marks |
|---|---|
| Technical (academic) knowledge | 40 |
| General awareness in civil engineering | 20 |
| Presentation and communication | 20 |
| Comprehension | 10 |
| Academic achievements | 10 |
The academic marks: 3 for an IIT, IISc, IIST, NIT or NIRF top 20 institute; 4 for CGPA above 9 or above 85%, 2 for 7.5 to 9 or 71 to 85%; 3 for an institute rank from 1 to 3.
The final panel is half GATE score, half interview. UR and EWS candidates need 50% on each and 60% overall; SC, ST, OBC and PwBD candidates, where posts are reserved, need 40% on each and 50% overall.
Salary
₹56,100 basic at Level 10, plus DA, HRA and Transport Allowance. Limited quarters are available in place of HRA. You'll be under the National Pension System or Unified Pension Scheme, with Central Government medical, LTC, insurance and housing advance benefits.
Scientific and technical staff are promoted under ISRO's Merit Promotion Scheme, which is not tied to vacancies.

Preparation Tips
- Your GATE score is half the final mark, so this is really a GATE exam followed by an interview.
- Revise core civil subjects for the interview; technical knowledge carries 40 marks.
- Twenty marks go to general awareness in your field. Know what ISRO's construction divisions do and where its centres are.
- Bring every original certificate. False details in the form mean no interview and no travel fare.
