L&T Syllabus, Exam Pattern, Eligibility, Important Dates
152 topics across 5 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
Larsen & Toubro recruits from campus into six distinct trainee categories and publishes a different selection process for each. Most companies publish one process or none.
They run from diploma holders to newly qualified Chartered Accountants and MBAs, and what a candidate faces depends on which one they apply to.
| Category | Who it recruits |
|---|---|
| GETs, Graduate Engineer Trainees | Fresh graduate engineers. L&T says it visits more than 150 campuses |
| PGETs, Post-graduate Engineer Trainees | Postgraduate engineers, placed into roles specific to their area of specialisation at the post graduate level |
| JETs and DETs, Junior and Diploma Engineer Trainees | Engineering Diploma Holders, for businesses across the country |
| MTs, Management Trainees | Premier institutions, particularly the older Indian Institutes of Technology |
| Chartered Accountants | Newly qualified CAs, posted at centres across the nation |
| MBA Campus Recruits | Some of the brightest MBAs directly from the campuses of India's premier B-Schools |
Three things shape all six. The reach is wide: more than 150 campuses for graduate engineers alone. Every route ends with a medical examination, a reminder that L&T is an engineering and construction company. And four of the six tests assess domain knowledge, which is the real difference from the IT services campus tests that stick to general aptitude and leave the subject to the interview.
L&T also runs pre-hiring engagements, two of which carry pre-placement interview opportunities: CreaTech for engineers and OutThink for B-Schools. A third, GRACE, is a pre-joining programme rather than a route in.
Applications run through L&T's careers portal, and L&T maintains a recruitment caution page.

Exam Pattern
L&T publishes the components of each selection process and nothing more: no question counts, no durations, no marks and no negative marking rule.
| Category | Selection process, in L&T's words |
|---|---|
| GETs | An online test which assesses domain knowledge and cognitive aptitude, a personal interview and a medical examination |
| PGETs | An online test which assesses domain knowledge and cognitive aptitude, a personal interview and a medical examination |
| JETs and DETs | An online test which assesses domain knowledge and cognitive aptitude, a personal interview and a medical examination |
| MTs | Written tests that assess domain knowledge, cognitive aptitude, and verbal comprehension, personal interviews, and a medical examination |
| Chartered Accountants | Written tests that measures cognitive aptitude, a personal interview and a medical examination |
| MBA Campus Recruits | Written tests that assess aptitude, situational judgement and verbal comprehension followed by personal interviews, and a medical examination |
Reading the differences
| What is assessed | Which categories |
|---|---|
| Domain knowledge | GETs, PGETs, JETs and DETs, MTs. Four of six. The test is partly about the candidate's own engineering discipline |
| Cognitive aptitude | Every category except the MBA route, where the word used is aptitude |
| Verbal comprehension | MTs and MBA Campus Recruits only |
| Situational judgement | MBA Campus Recruits only |
The mode differs too, and reads literally: an online test for GETs, PGETs and JETs or DETs, and written tests, plural, for MTs, Chartered Accountants and MBA recruits. For MBAs the plural is three instruments: aptitude, situational judgement and verbal comprehension.
The stages after the test are identical in all six: a personal interview, plural for MTs and MBA recruits, and a medical examination. No group discussion, technical round or assessment centre is published for any route, and no section names, question counts, durations, marks or negative marking rule exist beyond what is quoted above.
Syllabus
L&T publishes no syllabus. It publishes what each test assesses and the indicative roles for each category, and together those are the guide.
The tests cover domain knowledge (the candidate's own engineering discipline, for GETs, PGETs, JETs and DETs and MTs), cognitive aptitude in every category, verbal comprehension for MTs and MBA recruits, and situational judgement for MBA recruits, which asks how a candidate would act rather than what they know.
The indicative roles, which show what domain knowledge means here
| Category | Indicative roles, as L&T lists them |
|---|---|
| GETs | Technology and Product Development Centre; Manufacturing Technology; Material Competency Centre; Quality Assurance and Quality Control; International Business Development; Technical Services; Project Management; Construction Management; Manufacturing Engineering; Business Services; Sales and Marketing |
| PGETs | Research and Design; Project Management; Technology and Product Development Centre; Welding Engineering and Metallurgy; Strategic Electronics Centre; Total Quality Management; Industrial Engineering; International Business Development |
| JETs and DETs | Supervision at shop floor; operating specialised machines like CNC machines; tool assembly; 3D modelling using PDS software and AutoCAD drafting; manufacturing services such as QA, inspection, procurement and materials; sales and servicing; plant maintenance; project management |
| MTs | Project Management; Technology and Product Development Centre; International Business Development |
| Chartered Accountants | Financial Accounting; Costing and Indirect Taxation; Internal Audit; Direct Taxation; Projects Accounting; Treasury; Assurance and MIS |
| MBA Campus Recruits | Human Resources; Sales and Marketing; Finance; Supply Chain Management; Operations; Strategy; IT and Analytics |
For GETs the breadth is the point: eleven role families, so the domain knowledge tested is core engineering rather than a specialisation. For PGETs it is the opposite. L&T says those roles require some degree of specialisation in a relevant engineering discipline, over and above the basic capabilities and knowledge base of a Graduate Engineer, and names design calculations, computer-aided high-end engineering analysis, simulation, optimisation, basic and detail engineering, new product or process design, troubleshooting, failure analysis and new technology development. The JET and DET list is shop-floor concrete, and the CA list reads as a syllabus in itself.
L&T is also unusually candid about what decides a PGET's placement: the academic background of a PGET, academic project work carried out and his or her performance during the selection process determines the suitability of the candidate for an intended function.
Eligibility Criteria
L&T publishes eligibility as a qualification and a campus tier rather than as a percentage. There is no published marks floor, no backlog rule, no gap ceiling and no age limit for any category.
| Category | Qualification | Where L&T recruits from |
|---|---|---|
| GETs | A graduate engineering degree | More than 150 campuses |
| PGETs | A postgraduate engineering degree, in a relevant discipline | India's premier engineering institutions |
| JETs and DETs | An engineering diploma | Across the country, for various L&T businesses |
| MTs | Engineering, at the top of the field | Premier institutions, particularly the older Indian Institutes of Technology |
| Chartered Accountants | A qualified CA | Posted at L&T centres across the nation |
| MBA Campus Recruits | An MBA | India's premier B-Schools |
The filter actually applied is the campus. L&T's campus recruitment is a visiting programme: each year, we visit India's premier engineering and management institutions. Inside one of those, eligibility runs through the placement cell; outside, the campus route is closed and the ordinary careers portal is the way in. The GET route is the exception in scale, since 150-plus campuses reaches well beyond the top tier.
Beyond the qualification, L&T states only this: our selection process is designed to identify individuals with strong technical foundations, conceptual clarity, and alignment with L&T's core values. We look for more than academic excellence, we seek energy, commitment, and a passion for excellence.
One intake figure is published: L&T has consistently maintained 30% women representation among GETs and PGETs over the last three years. No percentage or CGPA floor, backlog rule, gap ceiling, age limit or year-of-passing window appears anywhere on its campus pages.
Selection Process
Six categories, six published processes, and the same three-part shape in every one: a test, an interview, a medical examination. The per-category wording is quoted in full under Exam pattern. The rest of the journey is below.
Before the process
| Programme | What it is |
|---|---|
| CreaTech | L&T's flagship case competition for engineers, offering real-world problem-solving experiences that mirror industry challenges |
| OutThink | A Business Case Competition for premier B-Schools. Participants present to a jury at a grand finale held in Mumbai and compete for cash prizes and Pre-Placement Interview opportunities |
| Leadership talks and industry-academia connects | L&T leaders visiting key campuses |
OutThink is the one with a published outcome: a PPI opportunity at the finale.
After the offer, before the job
GRACE, which L&T expands as Get Ready for an Awesome Career in Engineering, is a pre-joining programme rather than a selection stage: radio podcasts, gamified content on our business achievements, with leader boards, quizzes, webinars, micro-learning platforms, and competitions.
The Orientation Programme
Every fresh entrant goes through it. It gives them an overview of the breadth of work and enables the transition from Campus to Corporate, with technical projects, individual assignments, product simulations, and various technical as well as non-technical exercises online, delivered as a curated and structured one-year rotation and training plan that aligns with each trainee's role and specialisation. A year of structured rotation is a commitment on both sides, which is why the selection ends with a medical examination rather than an offer letter.
Management Trainees get one element more: a structured mentoring programme, where each MT is paired with a senior leader to enable personalised, one-on-one guidance and learning. L&T describes MTs as hired with the clear intent of grooming them into future leaders of the organization.
L&T keeps a recruitment caution page linked from its careers menu. Read it before responding to any approach.
Salary
L&T publishes no salary, stipend or CTC for any of its six campus categories. No figure appears on its campus or careers pages, and none is invented here. Ask the placement cell: the package for a given campus and category is communicated there. Any L&T GET or MT package figure found elsewhere did not come from L&T.
What it does publish is what a trainee is being trained toward, which is the part a candidate can use when comparing offers. The first year is an Orientation Programme, delivered as a curated and structured one-year rotation and training plan.
| Category | L&T's stated intent |
|---|---|
| GETs | Transforming fresh graduate engineers into future leaders through challenging assignments and projects |
| PGETs | Roles in Research and Development, Design, Engineering and New Product or Process Development, specific to the candidate's specialisation |
| MTs | Grooming them into future leaders of the organization, with key roles with a structured career progression and a mentoring pairing with a senior leader |
| MBA Campus Recruits | Posted across L&T businesses to tackle some of the trickiest business challenges |
The non-monetary parts L&T names are a Learning and Development function with a Leadership Development Academy, interactions with several departments of the organisation and clients for MTs, and the GRACE programme between offer and joining.
How to Apply
L&T's campus hiring runs through institutions. Its portal runs everything else.
| Route | How to reach it |
|---|---|
| Campus recruitment | Through the placement cell, when L&T's Campus Recruitment Team visits. For GETs that is more than 150 campuses; for MTs, premier institutions particularly the older IITs; for MBA recruits, India's premier B-Schools |
| CreaTech | L&T's case competition for engineers, run on campus |
| OutThink | The business case competition for B-Schools, with a grand finale in Mumbai carrying cash prizes and Pre-Placement Interview opportunities |
| Any other role | L&T's careers portal, reached by Apply Now from the careers page |
There is no fee. L&T publishes none for campus recruitment or for its competitions.
L&T gives Recruitment Caution its own place in the careers menu, alongside Campus Engage and Learning and Development. Read it before responding to an approach that did not come through the placement cell or the official portal.
The contact it publishes: Larsen & Toubro Limited, L&T House, N.M. Marg, Ballard Estate, Mumbai 400 001, telephone +91 22 67525656, and infodesk@larsentoubro.com for general enquiries.
Participating Institutes
The employer
Larsen & Toubro Limited, CIN L99999MH1946PLC004768, L&T House, N.M. Marg, Ballard Estate, Mumbai 400 001. It hires into its own businesses, grouped as Construction, Energy, Manufacturing, Services and allied businesses. A trainee is recruited into one of those, not into a single company function.
Which institutions L&T visits
| Category | Institutions, as L&T describes them |
|---|---|
| GETs | More than 150 campuses |
| MTs | Premier institutions, particularly the older Indian Institutes of Technology |
| MBA Campus Recruits | India's premier B-Schools |
| OutThink competition | Premier B-Schools across the country |
| Campus engagement generally | Top talent across premier engineering institutes, through leadership talks and industry-academia connects |
L&T does not publish the list of the 150-plus campuses. So the GET route is wide and the MT and MBA routes are narrow, and the placement cell is the only place to find out which of the six L&T visits a given campus for.
On its own pipeline: L&T's amazing growth story has been possible because of the fresh talent that flows in from engineering campuses. And one published figure: we have consistently maintained 30% women representation among GETs and PGETs over the last three years. The functions each category enters are listed under Syllabus.
Exam Centres
L&T publishes no centre list, no city list and no venue for any of its campus tests. It publishes the mode, and the mode differs by category: an online test for GETs, PGETs and JETs or DETs, and written tests, plural, for MTs, Chartered Accountants and MBA Campus Recruits.
In practice it happens on campus. L&T describes its campus recruitment as a visiting programme, each year, we visit India's premier engineering and management institutions, so the placement cell holds the schedule, the venue and the reporting instructions. L&T's public pages carry none of them.
Two stages follow the test everywhere: a personal interview, plural for MTs and MBA recruits, and a medical examination, named in all six processes and worth planning for at an engineering and construction employer with site postings.
For a candidate at a campus L&T does not visit, the campus route is closed and roles are advertised with their own requirements on the careers portal.
Important Dates
L&T publishes no recruitment calendar, and no registration, test or result date. Campus hiring runs on the institutions' placement calendars and the portal runs continuously, so the placement cell is the source.
| What has a schedule | Where it lives |
|---|---|
| Campus recruitment for all six trainee categories | The institution's placement calendar. L&T says each year, we visit India's premier engineering and management institutions |
| CreaTech, the engineering case competition | Announced on campus when it runs |
| OutThink, the B-School case competition | Announced on campus, with a grand finale held in Mumbai |
| Any other role | L&T's careers portal, where postings open and close individually |
The one duration L&T does publish is the Orientation Programme, delivered as a curated and structured one-year rotation and training plan. A campus offer is a commitment to a structured first year rather than to an immediate posting. Between offer and joining sits GRACE, whose length L&T does not publish.
Admit Card
L&T issues no admit card or hall ticket for any of its six campus categories. Access to the test comes through the campus drive, coordinated by the placement cell, which also holds the dates, venues and reporting instructions. The personal interview follows on the drive's schedule, and the medical examination after that.
What to have ready: academic records including project work, since L&T states for PGETs that the academic background of a PGET, academic project work carried out and his or her performance during the selection process determines the suitability of the candidate for an intended function; identity documents as the drive requires; and fitness for the medical, which is the last published stage of every route.
Any communication about an L&T role that arrives outside the placement cell or the official careers portal should be checked against L&T's Recruitment Caution page.
Result
L&T publishes no result mechanism, no score, no scorecard and no ranking for any campus category. The process is a sequence of stages and a candidate learns the result by being taken to the next one: the test, then a personal interview, then a medical examination. No feedback is published at any point, and the result comes from the placement cell rather than from L&T.
What determines the posting, rather than the pass, is stated for PGETs: the academic background of a PGET, academic project work carried out and his or her performance during the selection process determines the suitability of the candidate for an intended function. The test is one of three inputs.
A selected candidate then gets GRACE between offer and joining, the Orientation Programme on arrival, and a structured one-year rotation; Management Trainees are additionally paired with a senior leader for one-on-one mentoring.
Cut Off
L&T publishes no cut-off of any kind: no test score, no percentage, no CGPA and no shortlisting ratio, for any of the six trainee categories. L&T GET cut-offs and section-wise thresholds published elsewhere did not come from L&T and are dated against no drive.
What filters candidates instead is the campus, the qualification, and the test itself. The campus is the real gate: more than 150 campuses for GETs, premier institutions particularly the older IITs for MTs, India's premier B-Schools for MBA recruits, and no campus route at all outside them. The qualification is a diploma, a degree, a postgraduate degree, a CA or an MBA depending on the category. And domain knowledge, named in four of the six test descriptions, filters by discipline rather than by a marks rule.
The only intake statistic L&T publishes is a composition one: 30% women representation among GETs and PGETs, consistently, over the last three years.
Preparation Tips
Find out which of the six categories your campus is visited for
Only the placement cell can answer that. GETs, PGETs, JETs and DETs, MTs, Chartered Accountants and MBA Campus Recruits are separate routes with separate tests, and L&T visits different tiers of institution for each.
Revise your own discipline, because domain knowledge is tested
Four of the six published processes name it: GETs, PGETs, JETs and DETs, and MTs. That is the biggest difference between an L&T campus test and an IT services one, and core subject revision is not optional here.
Work the indicative roles list for your category
Construction management and manufacturing engineering for GETs; welding engineering, metallurgy and the Strategic Electronics Centre for PGETs; CNC machines, PDS software and AutoCAD for JETs and DETs; costing, indirect taxation and treasury for CAs. Those lists are the best guide to what the domain knowledge means on that route.
Bring your academic project, not just your marks
For PGETs, L&T names academic project work as one of three inputs alongside the academic background and the selection process itself. Be able to talk about it in depth.
MBA candidates: prepare for situational judgement
The MBA route is the only one where L&T names it. A situational judgement test asks what you would do in a workplace scenario, not what you know. It cannot be revised for in the usual sense, but the format can be practised, and candidates who have never seen it lose marks to surprise.
Management Trainees: expect verbal comprehension as well
MTs face domain knowledge, cognitive aptitude and verbal comprehension, the widest of the six, on the narrowest route by institution. And the medical examination is the final published stage of all six routes, at an employer with site postings.
Enter CreaTech or OutThink if they come to your campus
OutThink carries cash prizes and Pre-Placement Interview opportunities at a grand finale in Mumbai, and CreaTech is the engineering equivalent. A competition entry is a cheaper route to L&T's attention than a test.
Understand what you are joining
A campus offer commits you to a structured one-year rotation into one of L&T's businesses across construction, energy, manufacturing and services. Read the roles for your category before deciding it is the career you want.
Sample Papers
No sample papers or previous year papers are available for any of L&T's six campus tests, and L&T publishes no question count, duration or marking scheme.
What each test assesses, and the indicative roles that show what the domain knowledge covers, are on Campus Engage.
