Maharashtra Police Constable Syllabus, Exam Pattern
126 topics across 4 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
Police Constable (Police Shipai) is the entry rank in the Maharashtra Police. Hiring is done unit by unit (Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Nagpur and the other commissionerates, the rural districts and the Lohmarg railway units), but one advertisement, one set of rules and one written paper cover all of them. The state police site, mahapolice.gov.in, carries the notice and the vacancy lists.
The latest drive is Police Recruitment 2024-25. It counted constable posts that fell vacant from 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2025 and listed 12,702 of them across 45 units, Mumbai city being the largest at 2,459. The same advertisement also covers Constable-Driver, Bandsman, SRPF armed constable and Jail Constable, each with its own vacancy list.

Syllabus
The written paper covers four subjects: arithmetic, general knowledge with current affairs, intelligence (reasoning) and Marathi grammar. The instructions do not break the 100 marks down by subject or list topics under each.

Selection Process

- The merit list is made from physical and written marks added together, category by category.
- Document check, then a provisional selection list for the unit.
Being on the list is not an appointment; the instructions say so in as many words.
How to Apply

Physical test and written test dates are fixed by each unit and were not on the state recruitment pages when we looked. The site lists earlier drives for 2019, 2021 and 2022-23 as well, so a new one tends to follow every year or two.
Result
Results are posted unit by unit on the state police site under the recruitment results link. When we checked, only the 2022-23 results were there, nothing yet for 2024-25. The results page is where they will appear.
Preparation Tips
Start with the run. It is 20 of the 50 physical marks and 25 marks decide whether the written paper opens to you at all. For the paper, practise basic arithmetic and reasoning under time and read a month or two of current affairs. Marathi grammar is the easiest place to pick up marks.
