Maharashtra Police Driver Constable Exam Pattern
126 topics across 4 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
Police Constable Driver (Police Shipai Chalak) drives the department's vehicles and ranks with the police constable cadre. It is a smaller recruitment than the main constable one: in Police Recruitment 2024-25 only 16 units hired drivers, for 478 vacancies in all.
Pune city has the most (105), then Navi Mumbai (82), Mira Bhayandar-Vasai-Virar (81) and rural Nashik (52). Several units have fewer than ten. The advertisement is the same one that covers the ordinary constable post, so the dates and fee match.

Maharashtra Police Driver Constable Details
Exam Pattern
| Stage | Detail |
|---|---|
| Physical test, 50 marks | Men: 1600 m run (30) and shot put (20). Women: 800 m run (30) and shot put (20) |
| Driving skill test | Two driving tests, 25 marks each, qualifying only |
| Written test | 100 marks, Marathi, multiple choice |
Only candidates who clear half the physical marks and qualify for the written paper are called for the skill test. They need 40 per cent across the physical and skill tests together. The skill test marks are not added to the merit list.
Eligibility Criteria
Age on 30 November 2025: 19 to 28 for open candidates, 19 to 33 for reserved categories. Sportspersons, women and police family members have extra relaxation in the instructions.
Education: Class 12 or equivalent.
Height: men 165 cm, women 158 cm. Men also need a chest of 79 cm unexpanded with 5 cm of expansion.
Licence: a valid light motor vehicle (LMV-TR) licence is required to apply. Once selected, a driver must get heavy goods and heavy passenger vehicle licences within five years. A candidate convicted of driving under the influence of drink or drugs cannot apply.
Marathi or Hindi knowledge and a computer qualification within two years of joining apply here too.
Selection Process
Merit comes from the physical and written marks. The physical test comes first. Candidates who qualify are called for the written test in a ratio of ten per vacancy, and the driving skill test is a gate on top of that. A selection list is provisional until documents are checked. Because the written paper is common to every unit hiring drivers, it is held on one day.
How to Apply
Apply on the same recruitment portal as the other police posts. The fee is ₹450 (open) or ₹350 (reserved), non-refundable. Have the LMV licence scan and the Class 12 certificate ready along with the usual caste, domicile and non-creamy layer papers. The units that hired drivers are listed in the driver vacancy list.
Important Dates
Applications ran from 29 October 2025 to 30 November 2025 and the state police site later extended the window to 7 December 2025. Age is counted on 30 November 2025. The vacancy count covers posts that fell vacant up to 31 December 2025.
Driving tests and the written paper are scheduled by the units and were not on the state recruitment pages when we checked.
