Maharashtra Zilla Parishad Rigman Exam Pattern, Eligibility
173 topics across 6 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
A rigman (listed in Marathi as dorkhandwala) works on a Zilla Parishad drilling and boring rig. The post sits in Group C of the Maharashtra Zilla Parishad service and is filled by direct recruitment.
The last drive was advertised in August 2023, with every district advertising its own vacancies. Osmanabad (now Dharashiv), for instance, advertised a single rigman post. Since then the department has announced no new notification that we could find, so treat the 2023 details below as last cycle, not current.

Exam Pattern
One online paper for the cadre, set at Class 10 level in Marathi and English.
| Subject | Questions |
|---|---|
| Marathi | 25 |

Eligibility Criteria
- Education: a school leaving certificate (Class 10) pass or equivalent.
- Licence: a valid heavy goods or heavy passenger vehicle licence, with at least one year of experience driving heavy vehicles.
- Preference: candidates with two years of machine-assisted digging experience were preferred.

| Category | Age limit in 2023 (minimum 18) |
|---|---|
| Open | 38 years, raised to 40 until 31 December 2023 |
| Reserved categories | 43 years, raised to 45 |
| Disabled, project-affected, earthquake-affected | 45 years, raised to 47 |

Selection Process
Merit comes from the written paper alone. Candidates in the provisional list are called to verify originals, and the final selection and wait lists go up on the district ZP website. Between equal scorers the advertisement lists tie-break rules, starting with farmer-suicide dependants.
Salary
Pay level S-7, ₹21,700 to ₹69,100 a month, as given in the 2023 advertisement.
How to Apply
Applications in 2023 went through the IBPS portal linked from each district ZP site. Apply to one district only for a post, because the papers run on the same dates and an admit card clash is the candidate's problem.
The fee in 2023 was ₹1,000 for the open category and ₹900 for reserved categories and orphans. Ex-servicemen paid nothing. It is paid online only, and each post needs its own application and its own fee.
Important Dates
| Step | Date (2023 drive) |
|---|---|
| Online applications open | 5 August 2023 |
| Last date to apply and pay the fee | 25 August 2023 (fee by 23:59) |
| Admit card | About 7 days before the paper |
Written tests were held in October 2023 and the later stages ran into 2024, district by district. No fresh application window is open at the moment.
Result
Results come district by district, as merit lists, then final selection lists, on each Zilla Parishad's website. The Dharashiv site shows how these were posted, for example its final selection list for stenographer (lower grade).
Preparation Tips
The paper is general: Marathi and English grammar, current affairs and basic state and India facts, number work and reasoning at Class 10 level. Previous year papers of other Zilla Parishad Group C posts from the 2023 cycle fit the pattern well.
