NHM Chhattisgarh hires Community Health Officers on contract for the health and wellness centres built on its sub-centres. It has used two different routes:
- 2021: 2,700 posts filled on merit from candidates who already had a nursing degree with the community health certificate built in. No exam.
- 2022: 800 seats on the six-month Certificate in Community Health, filled through an entrance exam. Those who pass the course are posted as CHOs.
There has been no CHO advertisement since July 2022. The NHM round that opened on 15 October 2026 (applications until 2 November 2026) is for state and district programme posts and has no CHO vacancy.

Exam Pattern
In 2022 the entrance test was multiple choice, set on the nursing curriculum (B.Sc, Post Basic and GNM). The advertisement gives no question count or marks. Candidates were first ranked on their qualifying marks to decide who sat the test, then admitted to the course district by district on the test merit and the reservation roster.
The 2021 round had no exam at all.
Eligibility Criteria
2022 entrance route
- Chhattisgarh domicile.
- B.Sc Nursing, Post Basic B.Sc Nursing or GNM from a recognised university or nursing council.
- Live registration with the Chhattisgarh Nursing Council.
- Age 18 to 35 on 1 January 2022; SC and ST up to 40.
- Knowing the local language was listed as desirable.
2021 merit route
- B.Sc Nursing or Post Basic B.Sc Nursing with the Certificate in Community Health as an integrated course.
- Chhattisgarh Nursing Council registration (45 days allowed after selection if missing).
- Age 21 to 35 on 1 January 2021, with 5 years more for Chhattisgarh residents and no more than 45 with all relaxations.
Selection Process
2022: online form, qualifying-marks merit list, entrance test, district-wise merit, document check, then admission to a programme study centre for the six-month IGNOU course. You signed a bond to serve at least three years at a health and wellness centre after passing. Skipping the study centre made you liable to repay the ₹15,000 IGNOU fee.
2021: division-wise, category-wise combined merit of eligible candidates, then online counselling to pick a posting.
Salary
₹16,500 a month consolidated, plus a performance-based incentive of up to ₹15,000 (both 2021 and 2022 notices). During the 2022 training course the stipend was ₹10,000 a month, and NHM paid the IGNOU fees.
How to Apply
Online only, through the department site. The 2022 fee was ₹300 for unreserved, ₹200 for OBC and ₹100 for SC, ST, women and disabled candidates. You entered your aggregate marks in the form (all three GNM years plus internship, or the final B.Sc mark sheet), and no claim to change them was accepted later.
